Nov 2, 2016 I use to be in the same boat. Before this year all I copped were emo band albums on my birthday in elementary school and The OF Tape Vol. 2 on iTunes cause in couldn't find a oldie link and it was album only.... I've recently started putting more time into my vinyl collection and its so rewarding there's something special and personal about physically owning the record getting to touch it and hold it and care for it. Knowing one day my kids are gonna ask "Daddy what are these?" And I'll get to share with them something I've loved for so long The second my kids first hear "pour that s--- up foo" as Barter 6 starts and I see the excitement mixed with curiosity take over their face.....
Nov 2, 2016 "Carrie & Lowell" started my vinyl collection (its marked down to $12 right now if anyone's interested.....) There was a period in my life December 2015-April 2016 I consider the "Carrie & Lowell" phase. I lost my grandfather to cancer the first significant death I've ever faced and watched progress. I came back to Carrie & Lowell around this time and it was otherworldly it was beyond listening to music. I'd go to work drunk almost daily play Carrie & Lowell pretend to watch cameras and cry while smoking a Newport on my breaks. Words can't explain........ Its nothing I could ever put myself In it was the perfect mixture of beauty and tragedy in my life mixing at the right time it was otherworldy and looking back i kind of miss it because I will never feel so strong about anything again
Nov 2, 2016 canadian economy is in the absolute shitter and more specifically my province has the worst budget it's had in decades. groceries and gas are disgustingly expensive, cell phone charges are absurd, and i dont need to buy music for +25% what they're supposed to be charging when the current canadian dollar exchange rate is 0.75USD
Nov 2, 2016 I fully understand and that was the biggest arguenent for me to get illegal links but man owning it gives you a certain happiness just listening will never give you. It brings other senses into it touch sight h--- even smell when you take it out of packaging. Its beautiful.... IF you ever decide to change your mind do what I did cop a favorite or two and hey if you find the enjoyment I did you may continue. If not hey at least you supported a few favorites and still own what you have
Nov 2, 2016 vinyl is different tho if i really like an album a lot ill buy it on vinyl if i can get it for a non ludicrous price
Nov 2, 2016 I get all my music for free because f--- it, we live in the age of sharing and collecting. It used to matter if you bought CD's but since you can just share them online what's the point. They should have a feature to donate to the artists for a certain project and how much because it worked for Radiohead, why try to force people to pay? Only real money is in licensing the s--- anyway.
Nov 2, 2016 I don't have stats to back it but I think vinyl prices are decreasing... When I first became interested I was seeing a lot more in the $30-40 range USD and now I'm seeing more and more released sub $25. I think the growing interest in them will make more artist release limited color versions which in turn will price their standard black.version lower....
Nov 2, 2016 yeah, i've bought a few hardcopys in my life and i def know what you mean but right now im tryna pay my way through college and im not tryna waste money like that. maybe when i start making real money ill do s--- like that but for me its not about supporting the artist at all i really couldnt give a f--- about their sucess tbr it would just be to start a collection i can hang up on my wall and s---
Nov 2, 2016 I used to have a booklet filled of CD's that I bought. I think it held 100 CD's and was full. I kept them in good condition but over the years they would still get scratches causing songs to skip, and eventually to a point where they would start getting CD cancer where a big warped spot would appear and start growing making the CD unusable. Also as a kid I used to spend a s--- load of money on buying singles and then buying an album based off of the single when the rest of the album was trash. I've spent enough I think. There's still certain artists I'll buy either a CD or digital albums from to support. I also go to a lot of concerts and shell out well over $200 for good seats.
Nov 2, 2016 I really don't have the money to buy as much music as I listen to, and streaming lets me listen to it for free. I do plan on collecting vinyls, but that's a project for another day.
Nov 2, 2016 I don't like paying for digital music, but I'll still buy physicals from my favorite artists just to show support.
Nov 2, 2016 Physicals are worth it since you get the highest quality possible. Plus you get to admire the creativity and theming went into the packaging. If possible I get vinyl because it's more collectible than a CD which is falling out of favor.
Nov 2, 2016 I guess I should of been more direct with PHYSICAL versions since I see most saying why pay for what I can get for free... I more than likely won't ever pay for digital due to me copping the physical BUT if there's some obscure album I like and is impossible to find illegally BUT isn't a big enough priority to shell out for a physical... I'll spend the $6.99 or whatever for digital why not
