May 21, 2023 Olivia is a summer artist to me. I’d be very surprised if her second album or at least a single leading up to the album doesn’t come out sometime this summer. She could be transitioning to being an early fall artist… who knows. She’s already beginning the teasing though. Olivia’s last album was great and very promising for the future of pop. The sophomore album can make or break pop artists. Do you think Olivia will top SOUR? Are you looking forward to her second album? What do you think it will be called (please don’t name it after another flavor)? What type of sounds will she explore? EDIT: ALBUM TITLE, COVER, AND RELEASE DATE First single: vampire
May 21, 2023 She got a lot of high expectations to live up to. Especially since Billie 2nd album was an underperforming one.
May 21, 2023 Yeah, getting billions of streams with your FIRST album really sets you up for failure because there’s almost no way your next album is going to live up to those numbers. That’s why it’s better to start off your career low and keep climbing up. I don’t think Olivia’s next album will live up to her last numbers wise, just like with what happened to Billie. However, I’m hoping the album will be better sonically and lyrically.
May 21, 2023 I hope she changes production styles. That pop rock sound trend is over. So I’m curious if she will lean more singer song writer on just full on pop
May 21, 2023 I wouldn’t mind more pop punk stuff. She’s working with Dan Nigro again so there probably will be more rock stuff tbh. I’m sure there will be a mix of styles though. She only had 2 pop punk songs on the last album anyway. If she leans more singer-songwriter I hope it’s not a copy of Gracie Abrams since I know Olivia gets a lot inspiration from her. I could see her doing some synth-pop if she leans more into pop. I’d like to see her on some house production too just for the f--- of it but I doubt that will happen lol. I’m also wondering if this album have any features
May 22, 2023 Year so dry I wouldn’t be surprised lol but I expect some good songs. Lana has AOTY belt so far imo.
May 22, 2023 Lana’s album was too long and boring on first listen for me to put it anywhere near that conversation, but I gotta listen again. Olivia hasn’t missed yet so I believe in her. There were some songs that were weaker than the others on SOUR but they were still good. She’s working with the same producer so this album should hopefully at least be of similar quality
May 22, 2023 In terms of creativity, I like Jpegmafia and Danny brown’s collab tape the most this year. I’ll have to give gecs another listen though, I only listened to it once tbh
May 22, 2023 I'm interested to see how this ends up being! I like basically every song from Sour but it was a bit samey, she has a knack for catchy melodies and some solid songwriting so i'm excited to see how she evolves if at all. Wonder if she'll lean heavier into more pop punk stuff or the more Lorde/Taylor Swift reminiscent stuff.
May 22, 2023 I still need to listen to the Lana album but man i am not in the mood for an album that long rn lol. Good to hear you like it though! I personally gotta push back on it being a dry year, it probably is compared to last year but there's still 4 or 5 albums i really like that came out this year so far.
May 22, 2023 Yeah 1 step forward 3 steps back, enough for you, and happier are the weakest songs to me. They’re nice but don’t do much for me that the other songs didn’t already do. Probably both. She seems like someone who wants to keep exploring multiple genres like country, pop, rock, piano ballads, etc. The singer-songwriter acoustic guitar/piano stuff seems to be where she is most comfortable, but with good 4 u having over 1 billion streams I’m sure there will be at least 1 pop punk song on the new album. h---, she might even explore rap: That’s one of the reasons Olivia’s album is so effective… only 11 songs clocking in at around 35 minutes. That’s all most artists need tbh. It seems very rare that long albums actually need to be long. People like Kendrick Lamar can make it work, but Lana? Idk, she could’ve cut some of those songs imo.
