Sep 10, 2017 So recently I made my Facebook and Instagram accounts private to the fullest extent and I created a private proxy server for which I route all my traffic through now. I'm also getting prescription sunglasses (so I don't f--- up my eyesight and can still read) and a new wardrobe which draws a lot less attention then it did before. So with the recent state of ISP's selling your data, your data getting leaked, privacy mistrust everywhere and basically the loss of any sort of sensibility in the world; I have to wonder if there's a lot of people starting to make their lives private to everyone including their services. Pretty much a lot of people regret putting their stuff out on the internet (including me) and it's going to be hard to make our lives private in a public world but if the internet can get Trump elected than I can certainly use it to hide my tracks right?
Sep 10, 2017 stop derailing threads with this type of s---. this is a privacy thread, nobody gives a s--- about your sunnies and wardrobe brutha
Sep 10, 2017 That's the point tho... Who want's to wear a stupid red jacket and have people look into your eyes at all available times. I could buy f---ing cheap sunglasses but I prefer my eyesight thank you very much. The only thing that'll be cheap is my public wardrobe; I'm going to be pillaging goodwill for the most common clothes out there.
Sep 10, 2017 So you're telling me to combat places that will either sell or leak your information, you're just going to make your facebook and instagram private? That ain't gonna help s---, just so you're aware.
Sep 10, 2017 The best privacy action you can take to social media is simply not posting the things you want private on social media.
Sep 11, 2017 I know... I just selectively post what I want to post on there that isn't implicating. The social networks don't work unless you post every detail to them and even if I move to a new location or decide my tastes change. I don't have to feed them that, the personal information is optional. The ISP's however have the ability to watch and log every place you visit so they're more dangerous than a social network that you can selectively give info to; that's why I have set up a proxy server, so that all they see is the proxy server and not my activity.
Sep 11, 2017 @El Plus Member The ISP's did not sell you out; it's just bs tracking cookies and AdSense finding out which sites you go to... I would search for plugins that prevent tracking cookies and get AdBlock Plus/Pro for whichever your browser you're on. I have AdBlock disabled for this site but enabled for the rest of the internet. I admit, ads are necessary but the way they get your habits and persona from these ads are scary. EDIT: If you find a symbol that allows you to allow or deny whether you want personalized ads on the ads themselves, click it and disable personalization. You may not get ads specific to your tastes but it will increase your privacy levels.
Sep 12, 2017 I admit, I laughed at this post. The sunglasses are merely a public thing to avoid facial recognition as well as the clothes. The main thing that truly matters is making your internet activity undetectable. I took the time to make a private proxy for myself and I routed all my internet traffic through it; I could spend money for a VPN or a Premium Proxy but a VPN is often unnecessary and a lot of Premium Proxies are untrustworthy as f---. It took a long time but I finally got it to the point where everything just works. I'm also working on a private cloud and mail server for myself because let's face it. As google grows and grows, you can't trust it with your data anymore.
Sep 12, 2017 Oh wait... The sunglasses weren't an off-topic ramble? They were tactically purchased to combat facial recognition? My mistake tpk, carry on. you are much more smarter than me int his instance
Sep 12, 2017 Many celebrities do this as well as poker players, sunglasses have a very heavy tint meaning they can't see your eyes so it works effectively well for throwing off people. I'll admit, you can't see as well through the sunglasses but my eyes will thank me later for wearing them.
Sep 12, 2017 I read up on a lot of fringe topics and a lot of the techniques they propose are workable. Since the internet is controlled by several large ISP's (with small ISP's forced to use their networks) and since a VPN/VPS/Proxy service can potentially store your information, it all boils down to trust. Some guy running a personal server for other people can potentially be victim to a legal investigation or their ISP while a VPN/Proxy can't ensure your protection 100% (because a lot of them don't own their own servers), there are a lot of factors but then again, I take the risk because I trust my VPS provider 100%. I have been with them since 2015 and they've worked effectively well. I don't know if the sunglasses are needed but I just want to take the extra step just in case.
