I'm curious if you guys think any rapper(s) will ever get to the point where they're respected as much as artists like bob dylan, michael jackson, jim morrison, kurt cobain, etc. Outkast is probably the only hip-hop musical act I can think of besides Kanye, but unfortunately his controversial personality will prevent him from ever reaching the level of respect he probably deserves. What do you guys think?

I hope you're right but there's a lot of people who HATE kanye with a passion. It's kind of weird tbh.

People always call him an idiot because of his stunts at Grammys and such. Dude does that s--- on purpose lmao, he gets attention for that s---. Tons of it. His music is praised.. As time passes people (not his fans) will forget about his lil antics and praise him.

I can see Kanye being a grower, this generation and next (maybe) he may be remembered for his stunts but eventually he'll be remembered for his body of work.

Rappers will eventually getting the praise they deserve but it'll take time. Maybe 40-50 years from now to weed out the "rap isn't music" "LOLz rap= r-----s attempting poetry" and/or "rapping requires no talent" morons, but it'll happen eventually. Probably not in our life time nor will we realize it, eventually it'll just be accepted.

Eminem was the highest selling artist of the 2000s besides The Beatles. He was a global phenomenon.
Much like the people you mentioned, he transcended music. That's an open and shut case as far as I'm concerned.

I think Dre, Jay and Eminem are somewhat respected. Kanye not so much but that's because he is a giant douchebag. If people who hate his persona would shut up with their complaints and listen to his music they would appreciate him more. But yeah that's kind of his own fault.

2pac has icon status. Can you imagine how different music would be today if Kurt Cobain and Pac had lived beyond the mid 90s?

Jay Z and Dr. Dre come to mind as people who seem to be highly respected in their industry.

A lot of people don't recognise rappers as musicians, and the "average" rapper is dismissed with no second thoughts. Of course there are exceptions that people simply can't ignore, but there's just a handful of them.

This is actually pathetic, even the worst stan shouldn't say things like this
