Depends on who is doing the respecting. All of those artists were hated by a certain audience at one point in their career. Our generation already appreciates the genre, and as we grow old & gray, soon we'll be the wise ones who decides who gets respected.

Ye is obviously the greatest living rockstar on the planet

While current day Eminem shouldn't get no respect, this says it all

I don't like Kanye, and I never will, never liked his music, never really liked much of anything from him, and the grammys made me hate him more

Pac and Big are as respected as any musician ever. Eminem was f---ing huge and well respected. Outkast too, but all these people have been mentioned. The only people who don't give rappers the time of say are uneducated old people resistant to change. The youth already respects rappers who deserve it (and even some who don't)

Exactly. It was the same way back when our parents generation were kids and rock and roll first blew up big. All the old people hated it, thought it would never last, etc. Rap is the same way now because it's still a relatively young genre. It's only been mainstream for about 20 years now. By the time our generation is "old" (probably in our 50s) I guarantee you'll see rap getting just as much respect as every other genre. You'll be hearing classic rap stations on mainstream radio instead of classic rock. I can see Eminem doing sold out world tours and Super Bowl halftime shows in his 60s the way groups like Aerosmith do today (lol). And I'm hoping we eventually get a hip-hop hall of fame separate from the rock and roll hall of fame.
