Mar 28, 2015 This is something I noticed on Rap Basement/Studio Leaks as well. Very little discussion/talk about old school rappers. I was just looking at the top 5 FAVORITE rappers thread and it got me thinking--I don't think anyone, besides me, named any old school rappers. I'm not trying to tell you guys what to like, you don't have to like any old school rappers if you don't want to. I'm just curious about something: Is that people on here don't like old-school rappers or you just haven't listened to them? Which one is it, you guys?
Mar 28, 2015 yes this is why i used him...because i saw a thread about him today here..you still wont get people talking about him regardless
Mar 28, 2015 Q-Tip and Big Boi are on my list, and Jay-Z if you count him. Also I don't think that's really a fair dichotomy to pose—I love 2Pac, Biggie, Eric B & Rakim, N.W.A, etc—I just like Kanye and Clipse more.
Mar 28, 2015 Just last year Rakim said he's going to release a new album. But that's beside the point. Although many old-school rappers obviously don't release music anymore, you can still discuss them. You can talk about: -Fav songs from the old-school -Who your fav old-school rappers are - Fav albums by old-school rappers My point is YOU NEVER HEAR THESE GUYS MENTIONED...the proof is in that other thread that asked everyone who their top 5 fav rappers of all time are
Mar 28, 2015 The majority of my favorite rappers originated from the early Death Row days 1992-93. That's over 20 years ago now so I'd assume they're "old school" now. However anything older than that, rappers from the 80s, I can't stand most of them. The rhymes and flows and everything was just way too basic back then. Perfect example: the Beastie Boys. Yelling the words that rhyme at the end of each line. Ugh, I can't stand that s---.
Mar 28, 2015 Hollywood Undead yells half their s---, too, and half the s--- that rhymes gets dragged out. But you love that?
Mar 28, 2015 I saw Slick Rick & Biz Markie perform at the Howard Theatre in D.C. a month ago. Rakim was supposed to be there too, but had to cancel because of a medical emergency.
Mar 28, 2015 because they are dusty as f---. their time is over. make room for the new kings grandpa.
Mar 28, 2015 Rappers from the 80's aren't worthy of top 5 of all time, they had relatively simple raps and emphasis wasn't put on lyrical technique.
Mar 28, 2015 Should just have an old school appreciation thread. People should be getting in touch with the old school artists the same way they always try to with newer artists.
