Jul 29, 2015 king_po: If Rick Ross gets a pass so does Drake If Rick Ross can ghost write his entire life as a drug lord, Drake can "collaborate" with whoever he chooses. After all Kanye West "collaborates" End

Jul 29, 2015 Shyne's logic makes no sense. Kanye isn't a good comparison. Drake doesn't produce so I wouldn't give him that pass. There's a difference between ghostwriting and playing a character so the Rick Ross thing comparison is irrelevant too. There is a standard of integrity in hip hop when it comes to writing your own lyrics. You can't be considered a great rapper and be put on a pedestal if you don't write your own lyrics. I could understand maybe a couple bars inspired by other people but whole songs? Nah
Jul 29, 2015 WTF are you talking about? The majority of the world considers Kanye a better rapper than Drake. At this point Kanye's better known as a rapper than a producer.
Jul 29, 2015 By known as a rapper I mean that he is considered to be much more than a rapper so he isn't held to the same standard as those who are primarily rappers. People don't listen to Kanye for bars. He's an artist.
Jul 29, 2015 Nah man, you're living in a bubble. Drake fans are rabid and like the Heat did, he has a huge fanbase for the moment.
Jul 29, 2015 I find it hard to believe that there are still people who don't view Kanye as a rapper. I also don't understand how anyone could be surprised at someone having help writing songs
Jul 29, 2015 this is HIP HOP bruh you're supposed to write your own s--- or at least 95% of it or I can't take you serious as a lyricist. Rick Ross might be living in a world where he never was a CO but at least he's the one writing his delusional fantasy. Also there's a difference between bouncing around ideas with people and actually having REFERENCE tracks made by other guys showing you exactly how you're supposed to rap on a particular beat.
Jul 29, 2015 I get it man and I feel the same way but I'm sure most artists have used other people's work. It is what it is
Jul 29, 2015 Kanye gets a pass because of his early production, no one who listens to hiphop would put Kanye as a top 20 rapper because as a rapper he sucks. There are people who attempt to make a case for Drake as being a great lyracist top 20 or whatever, so if it turned out a lot of his stuff he didnt even write it discredits his whole position as being a rapper/lyracist and he does ntt produce so there is no case for him there as there is with Kanye. People who just listen to the radio music etc would consider Kanye as a rapper without even knowing he was/is a producer Dre also gets a pass but is on a level on his own
