Feb 1, 2016 Hi guys! I must begin saying that I am just a kid in 10th grade, but I've been messing with kendrick's music for oh so long. His albums really saved my life and helped me escape my previous life of basically doing nothing and actually invest in my talent, which is acting. Lately, I've really felt inspired to direct a play based on good kid maad city. what i want to do is actually have the actors just move around and act as told in the story while the music plays and the story unfolds. Kendrick has saved my life, I now feel the need to save the lives of other people and spread the message. However, there is one big problem. I live in Romania and well... I don't know any black people in my city and there really is no way to get any. The only solution which I can think of is have some white actors and using make-up, make them look black. So i ask you teh following question? How do you feel about this idea? I acutally have spent a lot of time studying the struggles in compton, and furthermore the problems a black man faces in his everyday life. My biggest fear is that people wiil interpret my play as a mock to the adress of black culture, which is definetly not what I want. I look forward to hearing your opinion, whether it's good or bad, it's really important to me to hae as many points of view as possible. P.S. sorry if my english is a little bad. If all goes well with this play, I woalud relly like to try doing To p---- A Butterfly. Peace and all the best, Master Splinter's Father
Feb 2, 2016 Well obviously I have thought about that but since gkmc has a decent amount of n words I believe it would be innapropiate. Dunno man. It's so fustrating that I really have the idea and in my mind I see everything so clearly, how everything should look in the play and all that...
Feb 2, 2016 I was actually going to quote this and be like "chill he's trying to throw together a play and this sounds kinda cool" then just f---ing LOL dead @ BTW there's a comedy series on Australian TV where this LITERALLY happened. An asian guy is an aspiring actor, but has to do a play with native Australian people in it. His entire class is Asian so he goes for the paint thing, gets mad backlash and then comes up with the brilliant idea of making everyone wear morph suits in a similar skin color to that of native Australians, with skin/body paint on them as well. So yeah, maybe you could do the morph suit/skintight clothing idea?
Feb 2, 2016 Well I'll definetly look up that idea. And yes, I obviously know that if I ever did this it would obviously be a huge risk and it might be interpreted as being disrespectful, which is why I'm asking for opinions or suggestions. All feedback helps, whether good or bad. Thanks mate
Feb 2, 2016 yeah nah, i thought you were trolling. but you seem serious. It's just such a weird f---ing thing lol. "aspiring actor cannot find any black people in Romania" like f---, I want to say, just holiday to LA to make it or something. Like I guess you're gonna have to go with your gut on this. Who knows, maybe you could just use face paint/make-up, get some backlash, explain that black people in Romania don't exist but you didn't want to give up on your vision, Kendrick will hear about it and star in the play while you produce it and get funding. Good luck buddy
Feb 2, 2016 Thanks man. Like over here(Romania) I've asked a lot o people about it and they cool but then you know, I don't really take their opinion because they would not have any reason to be offended
Feb 2, 2016 I think We can be Heroes that the chris lilley guy made as Ricky Wong . I just get his series' confused now, but it was one of them
Feb 2, 2016 Wait was this a joke, because I think I found the one I was thinking of. These guys did a play as the Jackson 5 using blackface and got in a shitload of trouble all over the world.
Feb 2, 2016 Nah lol. Have you seen We can be Heroes? it's like that Chris Lilly guy pretending to be a bunch of different people. One iss Ricky Wong, an aspiring Asian actor that wants to do black face for Aboriginals lol. Nut yeah that Jackson 5 hey hey its saturday thing sounds familiar.
Feb 2, 2016 Yeah it was we can be heroes. Indigeridoo i think his play was called haha ripper show Hey hey its saturday although for a second i was thinking of when sam newman did something similar on the footy show
