Despite producing some of the most fire beats ever.. @: - The Way I Am - Criminal - Without Me - Lose Yourself - Renegade If he wasn't who he is as a rapper... he would 100% be considered a top producer. I'm listening to Loyal to the Game now. The beats are good, everything is arranged and mixed well, it all feels as one and he put 2pac's material together well to create good songs. What's bad about it? The only thing I don't like is him manipulating Pac's vocals to sort of, shout him (Em) or G-Unit out etc. the ethics of that... / changing a dead man's vocals to say something he may not have wanted to say and imply association is very questionable lol. And Em should understand, since he sued the New Zealand political party not long ago for creating a 'Lose Yourself' copycat beat and implying association/advocacy from Em, with the ad and tempo and everything too. But at least he's alive to contest it.
Dec 15, 2025 at 9:27 AM yea I prefer Em's slowed down vocals over the originals. Listen to OG Ghetto Gospel. It is an unremarkable song. Eminem's version makes it have more impact and emotion. Same with Don't You Trust Me and others.

Dec 15, 2025 at 10:40 AM Mike Elizondo and Tommy Coster produced The Way I Am. Jeff Bass and DJ Head produced Criminal. Jeff Bass, DJ Head, Steve King and Mike Strange produced Without Me. Jeff Bass, Steve King, Luis Resto and DJ Head produced Lose Yourself. (Eminem failed to credit Heads name to this song and took the drum programming credit himself, funnily enough this is right around the time Head stopped working with Eminem) Renegade was produced by DJ Head with later elements added by Luis Resto. It’s highly likely that the entire Loyal To Tha Game album was mostly produced by Steve King and Luis Resto, with Eminem handling just the drum programming.

I don't mind the universalist message here, but it would have been cooler if he said "in your hearts and your minds I will never die, I am forever alive, where I continue growing one day at a time." although maybe too pretentious

Dec 17, 2025 at 1:20 AM Luis Resto literally said Em has 'symphonies in his head' and they've all confirmed Em hums the melodies to them. That's full on coming up with the actual melody and musical drive of songs. Which is more than most hip-hop producers do, which is often as you point out just drum programming. This is why Em's beats match his flow, because he used to think of the flow, and melodic drive and they'd build the music to match what he instructed. You got it backwards.

In DJ Heads Vice interview, he was actually asked about Renegade. Although for some strange reason that part of the interview doesn’t exist anymore: Spoiler But I remember when it did exist. And I remember the answer he gave. IIRC He said something along the lines of coming up with Renegade one night whilst watching some late night jazz show thing on BET, and that’s where the groove of the bassline in Renegade came from. And we already know he did the drums. So yes, he pretty much did produce Renegade. It was his original idea. It’s unclear who added the choir sounds and piano from the original version, but it obviously wasn’t Eminem. Then when Eminem did the version with Jay-Z, he got Resto to add some more parts.

It’s the real producers job, like Bass, King and Resto, to put Eminems ideas into the right key, find the right notes, play the instruments and see what works. This whole “Eminem is a great producer” thing I’ve never ever bought into. It was just an old trick that Dre taught him early on in order to squeeze more money from royalty sales by putting his name as a main producer credit. Dre has been doing it himself since the 90s. Yeah Eminem can work an MPC and make drum patterns but that’s as far as his producing skills go, and most of his drum tracks are s-----y and basic anyway. The decline in quality of the drums from TES to Encore is clear to see. Yes, occasionally he would start by humming his own drums or rhythm, like The Way I Am, but the majority of the time his songs were completely started by a DJ Head drum track, then finding what works from there, as confirmed by Jeff Bass himself.

When you think of without me, people think 'DA DUM DA DAH DAH DAH DAH DUM DAH DAH', when people think of 'Lose Yourself', people think of the 'DUM DUM CHUM, DA DUM DUM CHUM' etc. It's what makes the music memorable. But he also did fully produce the songs and is far more involved than 'real producers' and hands on. So, you're wrong.

They were both completely created by Jeff Bass on a keyboard and guitar, the former created over one of DJ Heads drum beats. You’re completely musically illiterate.
