Dec 6, 2015 For only the third time since being elected, President Obama will address the nation from the Oval Office. The speech is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Eastern, and will be carried by CBS, ABC, Fox, and CNN. You can watch a live stream here. In tonight’s speech, Obama plans to address what he considers to be his highest priority: the safety of the American people. He will speak on the attacks in San Bernadino, and will discuss “the broader threat of terrorism.” Obama will begin by providing insight and information regarding the attacks in San Bernadino earlier this week. The shootings that claimed 14 people are being investigated as acts of terrorism, and Obama stated earlier this week it was “entirely possible” the two shooters were radicalized. Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27, were killed in a gun battle with police after their assault on the Inland Regional Center on Wednesday. Earlier in the week, A search of the couple’s home revealed thousands of rounds of ammunition as well as explosive devices. Obama addressed the events earlier in the week, and noted a lack of what he described as “common-sense gun safety laws.” “..Some may be aware of the fact that we have a no-fly list where people can’t get on planes, but those same people who we don’t allow to fly could go into a store right now in the United States and buy a firearm and there’s nothing that we can do to stop them,” Obama said during an interview with CBS on Wednesday. “That’s a law that needs to be changed.” The President has spoken live from the Oval Office just twice during his presidency, both in 2010. His first speech laid out the plan for combatting the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The disaster, which started on April 20, 2010, spilled millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Four months later, Obama was giving another speech from his desk. This time, it was to announce the end of combat operations in Iraq. “So tonight, I am announcing that the American combat mission in Iraq has ended. Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the Iraqi people now have lead responsibility for the security of their country,” Obama told a national audience. It’s worth noting that over five years later, thousands of troops are still present in Iraq engaging in an anti-ISIS campaign.
