    Spatula Relapse is a masterpiece

I still cant get over how confused Eminem is about his own characters in GC2.

First of all, Eminem is supposed to be kidnapped, but Shady says "scared of your reflection, its just a mirror", so is Shady like a standalone entity or not in this situation?

Eminem says "let me go", Shady responds "ha, never", yet he just lets him go at the end.

One of most subtle problems is this detail:
Shady says "Marshall is getting a conscience" and Eminem goes angrily "f--- you!"
But wait, isnt Shady the one without conscience? Why is Eminem upset at this "insult" when the whole song is about Shady being evil and Eminem not being like that. If Eminem also doesn't want to have conscience, whats the line between Shady and Eminem?

Eminem then blames him for attacking Chris Reeves, and Shady hits him with good arguments, "you are me, you are also at fault" to which Eminem just says "man you rip on paraplegics"
He has no counter argument to anything Shady says but instead just blames him again as if he has another point, but any point he can make Shady already covered with "you are me"

Then Eminem mocks David Carradine and Shady is amused, but Eminem should not be making those analogies making fun of a dead person, that is Shady's turf.

Then Shady hits him with another set of good arguments, with the layered voice and all, but all Eminem has to say is "you're full of s---". Shady is not full of s---, you are! Shady didnt say a lie at all. Even Eminem adlibs "yeah, true" during the layered section.

Then Eminem says "let me go" and Shady does and gets the gun and kills Shady, but it is also a murder/suicide? Again, is Shady standing next to tied up Eminem or is he looking at the mirror?

And what is laughter at the end supposed to mean? Is Shady dead or not?

The song is really poorly thought up and executed. There are interesting moments, but the concept makes no sense at all.

My Darling and Bad Guy did this way better.

And this song suffers from the same problem My Darling has. The devil/Shady has lots of good points but Eminem has nothing. In My Darling he just curses, but offers no counter arguments. Same thing here. Eminem is too focused on one side, the other is not a fleshed out character, yet it is supposed to be the side we root for.

I believe Eminem can do better and this concept needs another attempt. Ideally, it would be like My Darling but Eminem is chill and Shady cannot get to him because he is emotionally not affected and over him. He just rationally provides counter arguments and drives Shady crazy because he cannot get a reaction from Eminem.

GC2 has too many problems I listed above to be considered a good song. Praise worthy attempt, but not executed well.

It went over your head. The whole thing is actually an inception style dream. A dream inside a dream, that’s why the first line shady spits is “This ain’t no Dream Now”. It’s a dream of him being kidnapped by his alter ego, but he realizes he is just asking to himself in a mirror, but he is actually dreaming both of these alternate narratives in his sleep

It does if you don't have a spatula for a brain. Eminem explains Slim Shady from 9:34 - 10:03 of the interview. Watch as many times as needed for it to sink in.

This line is just a reference to the SSEP intro and My Darling, where he smashes the mirror. Nothing really to read into here.
The Slim Shady character is a metaphor for his "shady side" and the "death of Slim Shady" story is, at least on a superficial level, a metaphor for the "good vs evil" conflict within him. Try not to read too literally into it. You might hurt your brain, and other people's brains with your obtuse ramblings.
Oh wow. You know what, I never noticed that. Whole song's ruined for me now!
"[Slim Shady] became something inside of me that was like, this is me all the time, this isn't an excuse or something. This is just me." - 2001 interview w/ Dave Fanning
I didn't necessarily get that impression. Even as Eminem is supposedly avenging his (or "Slim Shady's") enemies, he calls Benzino a midget again -- as Marshall, not Slim Shady. Then in Bad One he disses MGK again. He seems to be aware of his hypocrisy on some level, just as he's aware of his "double standard" when it comes to his love for his daughter vs his general attitude toward women. If true this implies an underlying cynicism about human motives, just as in the first Guilty Conscience.

Guilty Conscience? More like Gay Conscience! Slim Shady was totally trying to f--- Eminem. Why else would he tie him up? Freaky a--- dude! I think this track is actually about the hidden gay struggle inside of Marshall. I wouldn’t be surprised if this song empowers him to finally come out as gay within the next 2 years. You’re right, Spatula, he is confused… sexually!

Didn't read OP but imo the song is a tad overrated

The part where he uses the mmlp flow with layered voice is perfect though!

DOSS is Eminem's first nostalgia album. I think he did a great job overall, but it is the first release that really has nothing new to say. The Shady stuff and the emotional songs are replays. The album is all about looking back and playing the hits, so it doesn't really matter here to me. There's nothing insightful in GC, and the persona's are not very distinctive (never have been) and yet it's still a fun storytelling track about a man arguing with himself.

Its how he is in real life just look at what he just did. He drops a album that calls back to him being someone he apparently hates, then kills him - before embracing him. A few weeks later he completely abandons the side of him that he embraces and endorses the complete opposite of it (censorship). This is a very confused gay man right now who needs to just come out of the closet and do the music he regrets not doing (Revivial type stuff). He is mad because he wasn't able to be successful by being himself, that's why he is still so angry.
