    like how does the internet exist

    is there some place like a big server that everything is uploaded to

    like how is the internet a physical entity and space , where is it and how do multiple servers all contribute without anything going offline and the whole thing shutting down

    There's six people or something that actually possess a "key" per se that can turn it off in the event of like a catastrophic emergency. They all live on different continents. Not even joking it's something along those lines

    From my understanding its a bunch of different servers people host that connect to each other like you can with people using your router, you pay your internet provider to be able to use their share of servers.

    Yeah so basically this is also simple, your router is connected to a wire that you plug into your Ethernet outlet right, that runs underground to your neighborhood/local internet energy box or whatever the f--- its called, theres one like every mile or two in rural areas theres a shitton in major cities and those boxes all run to the other boxes around them and the main ISP in your city. To figure out how its done just think about how to make everyone connected and then put the pieces together.

    if we do simplify it and say everything is physically connected by these 'energy boxes' and 'wires that plug into your ethernet outlet' then that's a s--- ton of connections man, you know how big the internet is?

    Yeah the most confusing thing is the details, like the bigger picture is pretty simple, you can talk to me because we're both connected to servers that are connected to satellites but how they get that s--- to work i dont f---ing know

    should i tell them the things they are questioning about the internet could literally be applied to their mobile phones and calling people? nah i'll let them grow, experience and learn these things for themselves. i'm not their dad. yet.
