I don't particularly want to actually talk about the people in the title; it's just an easy way to label two different ideas.

What I want to talk about is the two different views the left seems to have on Islam and the people that follow it.

Essentially, there's conflict because some people think that some of the polls on ideas that "moderate" Muslims have are concerning and that the left needs to stop pretending there isn't a problem with some of the Muslims who aren't terrorists. They have NEVER tried to argue that "all" Muslims are this or that, just that there is a concerning number of them that hold concerning ideas about women, law, LGBT, etc. Of course, there are some Muslims who live completely normally and deserve to be treated no differently than anyone else. Which is why I (yes I know, I'm not talking about other people's beliefs now lol) find the Trump ban and the general view towards Muslims concerning and Unmerican. Just because people are concerned that a high % of "moderate" Muslims hold certain beliefs, does not mean we should assume things and treat every Muslim we see on the street differently. Imo, the group on the left triggered by this whole idea I just laid out, is so concerned with being tolerant that they lose their ability to use nuance. They can't see that there are more than two groups under the banner of Islam (terrorist and not terrorist). If you are concerned about truly peaceful Muslims, then you would want to combat these bad ideas that many "moderate" Muslims have, because those ideas actively hurt the people you're concerned about. The US only works because of diversity, but some ideas are juxtaposed to Western values. We can't be tolerant of intolerance. Looking at some of the pew polls it seems as if this problem is more widespread in Europe than the US, (probably because of the s-----y vetting. Though, the US obviously takes in less refugees in general, vetted or not), but the % is big enough to be of concern.

I agree. Pretty much every Muslim I personally know and have befriended are sane and rational and understanding cool people, but that still doesn't mean there's not a serious issue with a number of non-terrorist Muslims having some warped beliefs not compatible with the West. The polls confirm this, world wide.

Unfortunately the left who will insist America is a racist country will turn a blind eye and pretend there's still not a problem to be dealt with in the "moderate" Islamic community.
