My personal two favorite rappers of all time.

Rakim wins as far as innovation and influence go, but Nas is one of my favorite rappers.
It's weird because there are distinct parts of Nas' career where he channels Rakim, Kool G Rap, and Slick Rick.
Illmatic, It Was Written, & Stillmatic reflect that almost perfectly. (I'm not big on BDK otherwise I could probably point some of that out as well)

Both are of my favourites, so it's hard for me to decide on who is the best.

the formal aspects of nas' early writing obviously owe almost everything to rakim. ultimately, though, nas might have three albums that are better than leader/paid. he's also been more adaptive.

yeah, also i almost feel like you have to dock rakim for near irrelevance over the yrs. seventh seal was good, but nowhere near his best material...

Yeah, Rakim was a huge influence on Nas, especially his first couple albums...

But Nas perfected the style, and took it to the next level.

    Nas.

There’s no truth in your statement whatsoever.all those albums that you have mentioned are all about the streets lifestyle and that is a repetitive stereotype for our black communities..real talk and facts and no cap….follow the leader by Rakim is better then everything that Nas has ever done period…and Nas doesn’t have a iconic and timeless classic like Paid in full which is a visual and deep and complete story in just one verse and it shows the complete manifestation in man period and it’s the only iconic classic with a 7 minute re-mix to it..Nas doesn’t have anything like that ever homie..no cap

Rakim is talking about knowledge of self and spirituality and that’s always relevant and Nas is always talking about killing another black man….nas is repetitive
