    Yep, straight from Stanley's Basement.

Terrible, terrible song but entertaining nonetheless. I bet Eminem would buttfuck a monkey, too, degenerate manchild b------ that he is.

Creativity and fear don't work well together and that has been Em's problem for soooo many years it is depressing...he's taken some of the fear away in the last 15 years but it is still clearly alive. :cmpunk2::sad2::sad3:

I abandoned that view. Though I doubt he really forgot all about it in the meantime. Eminem always seems to be lying about remembering stuff.

Jeff Bass said that they had the Lose Yourself guitar hook floating around for a while and would always pull it up in studio sessions but never really knew what to do with it.

It’s completely plausible that Eminem wrote those two verses just one random day, laid them down and then never really looked back on what he’d done. Although the 8 Mile version of Lose Yourself obviously used the demo as a reference (for the chorus) so they would have had to listen back to it at some point.

We know the 8 Mile Lose Yourself was recorded in he 8 Mile studio trailer in pretty much one take. (I wonder what else was recorded in that trailer btw, can’t have just been the one song) And we know Lose Yourself and Square Dance were being written around the same time. I’d say original demo recorded mid 2001, album version late 2001

What happened to Aristotle? He was the voice for Ken Kaniff he recorded an Album called The Ken Kaniff show after him and Eminem had a falling out.

and how exactly did Ken Kannif come about? Aristotle is doing Ken voice in the skit on SSLP, but on c-m On Everybody Eminem is saying that line. What came first?

I don't know how long 8 Mile took to s---t but it could literally have just been enough time to record what he did for the soundtrack.

I can't remember which anniversary it was for but the Bass Brothers did post a photo on Instagram talking about the many stages and mixes for Lose Yourself and it was multiple CDs. I'm sure there was probably a lot more vocals recorded that just never got used.

According to most sources 8 Mile filming took place from Sept 01 - til the end of 01. Although there could have been re shoots and stuff in early 02.

Steve King said that the vocals on Lose Yourself were done in one take, pretty much first time in the 8 Mile trailer. He said Eminem tried to re do them later but couldn’t capture the same emotion so they just stuck with those original vocals.

I assume at least 1 alternate mix exists with the heavy guitars in the chorus, before Resto came and added those synth stabs instead.

Eminem said he scrapped the demo verses because he didn't like them: "I recorded the demo version of it the same day I made the beat. I didn't like the rhyme, and put it off to the side".

Although I can see why in parts they didn't meet his perfectionist standards at the time, I've long wondered if there was a deeper reason he didn't like them. Particularly the second verse, which may be the most Dionysian he's ever written:

I wonder if he felt dirty after writing this. He should have.

I don't remember quite how that one went, and I'm glad. But a moment's thought about similar schemes turned up the first verse of Don't Front:

Pencil is full of insolent bullets
I'm like a Doberman Pinscher, Pitbull and a Rott'
Mixed with a toxic, the plot begins to thicken
I begin to spittin' like vintage Pac
    Demented, demonic, sinister
Ever since the Doc' replenished me
The day he gave me that shot when I was just about to quit
So to not see him with me would be a shockin' image
    etc

Probably no coincidence considering this was recorded around the time he rediscovered LY demo and was probably listening to it.
