Jul 14, 2026 at 6:14 AM I watched Undertone last night. I thought it was great, definitely one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in awhile and one of my favorite movies of the year. It’s creepy in a creatively relatable way. This type of s--- used to creep me out when I was a kid. A lot of movies fail to keep my attention the whole time but this one had me hooked.
Jul 14, 2026 at 6:31 AM Oh yes definitely. The movie utilizes light and shadows in important ways. It would definitely be a lot less tense and immersive if you were to watch it in the daytime
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:22 AM Yes bro. s--- had me creeped out too. Imagining if it was happening to you. I'd go crazy like a MFer lmao
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:26 AM I started it around 1 am, just coincidentally. The dead of night is relevant to the story line, so that made it... more intense Do you have an upstairs? A cracked door letting just a little light out from upstairs would add to the experience Noise-cancelling headphones not recommended. Had to take mine off partway through
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:34 AM SPOILER SERIOUSLY. My MIL has dementia and lives with us... so certain moments of the movie were sincerely disturbing, because some of the mom's "behavior" was authentically accurate of someone losing their mind, & familiar to me from first-hand experience I kept thinking I'd look up and find MIL standing in the dark there in the room with me, silent, doing something weird. She's done it before, like 3 am. Completely dressed in a suit, jacket, stockings, high heels. She was ready for her coffin, she said. She sways
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:36 AM d--- that s--- must have been a... Sight and scary. I bet it affected your partner seeing his mother like that. d---
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:39 AM Definitely. She's done crazy s--- before, but yeah... not to that degree. We couldn't sleep
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:50 AM I bet you couldn't. s--- woulda had me sleeping with one eye open. Giving each eye a good 3 hours each that night. s---.
Jul 14, 2026 at 9:54 AM Watched Passenger last night, another really good one! SPOILER AGAIN Favorite moments: the demon was well done for a change. That can be difficult to achieve without coming off just stupid/comical (Smile), or predictable/overdone. I liked it, he was actually creepy. Not as outwardly scary as the Undertone mom but the way he flickered in & out of visibility & just appeared in the car was pretty startling. Sincerely good demon appearance too, though he did remind me some of the evil thing from Smile. Liked the story a lot too, not really done before, though the end getting g to their destination reminded me some of Wrong Turn. The van life thing was unique, the meet-ups. 8/10. I'll watch it again.
Jul 14, 2026 at 10:11 AM I usually sleep around 11pm except when I have somewhere to go lmao. Yes but I banned the tv from the bedroom years ago. Tv off means going to bed and sleep. I don't mind waiting though, got a lot of new ones lined up for spooky season in between the classics!
Jul 14, 2026 at 10:18 AM Oh there are a bunch of new good ones for October that's for sure. Hope we get more. I agree with what Ripper Roo said... good horror is back! Backrooms is next for me. From the description it sounds sort of similar to the scene of Severance, which turned too dumb to finish. Backrooms sounds like a creepier premise though.
Jul 14, 2026 at 10:38 AM Backrooms Obsession Psycho Killer Backrooms Passenger Ready or not 2 Undertone Black Phone 2 Silent Night Whistle (went to bed after 10min lol) Scary movie 6 -could ofc be seen in light- And some older ones I never got to see I got lined up along the classics
Jul 14, 2026 at 10:44 AM Screenshotted this list! Was whistle stupid? I was thinking about that one because I saw it mentioned here
Jul 14, 2026 at 10:50 AM Marsh said he didn't like it as much. The first 10 minutes I had the idea it was a fun idea but with very average characters. One annoyed me right away lmao. Maybe it will get better though. Will watch somewhere this week. I went to bed because I was getting tired and didn't want to stay awake for 1.5 hours
Jul 14, 2026 at 10:52 AM I'm always on the lookout for something good and creepy. Consistently disappointed in recent years, until 2026!
Jul 14, 2026 at 2:07 PM Yeah come to think of it: weapons, sinners, final destination are the only ones I remember from last year
Jul 14, 2026 at 2:38 PM Saw the Raimi-Evil Dead trilogy last week ED1: Really good. I love how the deadites are actively sadistic instead of just being possessed husks that don't really have any personality, it really makes them stand out. ED2: Saw this one before, and I still love it. The dark humor really adds a lot, and the gore is spectacular. Army of Darkness: super different from the last two, but I still really enjoyed it. Barely any real horror, especially when compared to ED1, but I still think it's a good time. Not sure about where to continue after this. I'm interested in the Ash vs Evil Dead TV Show and the 2013 version, but I'm not that interested on the two new ones
