Mar 31, 2024 Twenty One Pilots - Clancy releasing on May 17, 2024. It is the third (and final?) installment in the Trench series, telling the story of Clancy returning to Trench after escaping and running away. What will he do with his newfound mind control powers?? Two singles are out now, Overcompensate and Next Semester
Mar 31, 2024 I just hope it’s better than Scaled And Icy. Their instrumentation work for the two singles has been great. Overcompensate rapping didn’t pull me in at all, and the chorus is alright; I am forgiving it if it’s just the intro track. Next Semester has great writing for the touchy subject that it covers (failed suicide attempt type of situation). I really dig the vibe that this one goes for, as well as the acoustic ending to it. The only gripe I have is that the “ooo ooo oo” background vocals in the intro kind of do annoy me though, idk why. I think it sets off my corny meter a tad
Mar 31, 2024 I used to hate their music, especially as I grew older, but then they put out Trench. The production on that album (thanks to Paul Meany from Mutemath) was great. The vocals were great and the lyrics didn't make me cringe. One of the few times I agree’d with Fantano on a project, it was solid. I’m hoping this sequel doesn’t let me down.
Mar 31, 2024 I don't mind the oo’s in the beginning too much. So far I’ve liked both singles. I was just taken aback by the style of this song, it didn't really fit the Trench world, theme, sound whatever you wanna call it. I also agree overcompensate didn’t hit me in the way Trench’s first singles did, especially Jumpsuit. It reminds me of their older work, especially the darker subject matter, but actually executed well and from a more mature perspective.
Apr 1, 2024 I agree. Never really liked them until Trench. Trench was an incredible album. Not sure if they can top that album. I like Overcompensate, but not the newer single.
Apr 25, 2024 Third single dropped: Looks like a throwback to "Stressed Out". A lot of Christian themes in this, IMO.
