scooba Em album - JUNE 7th

    Apr 18, 2024
Hey guys, this is a song I recently made (produced, written and performed by me). I haven’t made music in a while, but some of you guys inspired me to pick it up again. Just trying to find my lane and wipe off any rust.

    Any criticism is welcomed :emoji_relaxed:

Since you're de-rusting all I can think of as far as constructive criticism is sometimes the flow can sound like it's tripping over itself a bit, and I think your voice could do with being mixed a bit more with the beat cause they both sound like separate things playing at the same time instead of intrinsically tied if that makes sense? But those are things that can be constantly tinkered with while you keep making new music. Genuinely dig everything else though, keep posting music man. One of the true GOAT's of the forum.

It's missing at least 2 puns about human fecal matter though which will make me deduct points.

Can’t believe I forgot the poop bars d---. I see what you mean about the flow, and fully agree with the points on vocal mixing. Thank you for solid feedback and kind words!

I can hear the Quadeca inspiration. Before I criticize, I gotta compliment you on the beat. It has very nice, dreamy vibes for sure. I don’t really have an issue with lyrics or song structure either.

My biggest critique is similar to jankland’s and that’s the mixing. Like he said, your vocals feel separate from the beat. I feel like with a dreamy beat like this, you really want that reverb, delay, and other effects on the vocals to really shine through to help immerse the listener into that atmosphere. You also want the vocals and beat to hold hands. I know you’re probably mixing this yourself and mixing definitely isn’t easy at all at first, but with more and more practice you’ll get better at it. There’s a lot of dope, helpful channels on YouTube for that sort of thing.

When it comes to your rapping, it’s decent but sometimes your enunciation isn’t the greatest. If that’s the style you’re going for though that’s fine. Also, at around 1:47 until the hook hits again is around the time the flow starts tripping over itself like jankland said.

Generally speaking, it’s not a bad song at all. The fundamentals are there, the mixing just needs improvement. If you keep at it, you could be making great songs one day. Everyone has to start somewhere. I don’t know if this is your first song, but I’ve heard a lot worse attempts from beginners so bravo. I like some of the subject matter as well, maybe you could expand on that in the future.

If you need help with mixing and have trouble finding helpful YouTube channels, I could send you some. I’d offer mixing advice of my own but I haven’t mixed in a while

Yessir, I'm excited to see what else you put out! Keep pushing your production and you could become s80's Quonka

I really appreciate the detailed feedback, it’s beyond helpful. I started looking into some YouTubers after Janks reply, there seems to be an abundance of content on this exact subject as you said, so I’ve been enjoying the rabbit hole. Didn’t realize how much there is to mixing :emoji_sweat_smile: ; that and general vocal performance are areas I notice have a lot of room for improvement.

    Thank you!

I’m feeling the beat, especially the sythny intro and guitar outro , not so much the drum loop tho. Send me the stems and I’ll have a go at remixing this for free. Will b--- some Antares autotune on those vocals :emoji_thumbsup:
