Nov 18, 2021 You can be a good rapper and still make bad songs. That's why some great rappers never blow up. Kendrick did but I think he's boring as f--- post GKMC. It's just not enjoyable imo.
Nov 18, 2021 I think he's at a different place in the world now. Even his approach to his career has changed a lot. 2012-2014 kendrick was hungry, 2015 kendrick was more mature and seemed to be diving into something people didn't expect, 2017 was kinda just a weird place. Now he's checking for new sounds and s---. I think he doesn't really care anymore.
Nov 19, 2021 he has one of the most solid discography’s in hip hop. I’m sure he feels pressure and all that. Plus he’s a person with a life and family. People seem to forget that artists have a life outside of music
Nov 19, 2021 aftermath artists never drop albums at all lol I know he's technically on aftermath but I don't view him as an aftermath artist in any capacity. TDE is its own thing and I don't associate him with Dre at all really.
Nov 19, 2021 on the flipside, I think the expectation that has "needs" to say something or is obligated to do so is probably frustrating, especially from white fans/label execs and such...I could see him being jaded a la chapelle or frank ocean and he prob just wants to do his own thing and let the music speak for itself when it's ready.
Nov 19, 2021 Yeah, I could understand that. He also kind of put that burden a bit on himself too though. I always felt that’s what he wanted. A spotlight to be able make his art in creative ways to send a message. So for him to just sit quietly throughout almost the entirety of the Trump administration was pretty surprising tbh.
Nov 21, 2021 Seems like Three Stacks effect. Although, I wish we at least got one proper Three Stacks solo album Kendrick should just put out a mixtape. Take the pressure off and shake off some cobwebs. He could also probably collab with a few artists in the process
Feb 28, 2022 I think he’s just kind of a headcase tbh like tpab makes it seem like he thinks of himself like Nelson Mandela and he puts all this pressure on himself to be his generations leader etc I think he kinda burnt himself out with tpab-untitled-d----BP in like 2 years. just make music or retire at this point. Better not to force anything tho if he doesn’t really have anything to say. I was a huge kdot fan but it’s been so long at this point kinda hard for me to get excited
Mar 1, 2022 I could see that. Just being overly critical of himself. Which is a shame. I feel like ever since TPAB he feels like he always has to be saying something or sending a message in his music. He can’t just make music to make music. Like it’s kind of wild how even in terms of features, he’s disappeared from the face of the earth. And this was a dude who was hopping on everyone’s song back when he first blew up. Maybe the drive for making music just isn’t there anymore? Or like you said, he’s just run out of ideas & doesn’t have much else to say. Given *everything* going on though I find that hard to believe.
