Aug 22, 2021 So as some of you may or may not know, the third installment of Spider-Man in the MCU will reportedly be released in December this year, barring any delta covid delays. At the very end of Far From Home, Peter Parker's identity is revealed. Doctor Strange will be in this movie, as will Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 from 2004. If the rumors are to be believed, No Way Home is going to not only be the third film in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, but it is also going to be a live action Spider-Verse and a Sinister Six movie, consisting of Spider-Man villains from the multiverse - meaning from the previous five Spider-Man movies before the MCU debut of Tom Holland. Jamie Foxx as Electro is also confirmed for the movie, although he will be yellow instead of blue where he seemingly evaporated - maybe they'll make it that he teleported to an alternate universe. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the legacy Spider-Men, have been heavily rumored to be in the movies but are not confirmed and have also denied being in it. Alfred Molina has confirmed that he is playing the exact same version of the character as he did in 2004, and that his character's arc will pick up literally right from where it left off with him drowning (but not yet dead) in the river in Spider-Man 2. Green Goblin is rumored to be the main villain although Willem Dafoe has also not outright confirmed involvement in this movie. But he has implied that he has another movie coming out this year. The latest rumor now is that the trailer will be released tomorrow, during CinemaCon. Might as well have a thread for the movie now. edit: here it is and here is the other one
Aug 22, 2021 I liked the Tom Holland movies (don’t care about MCU s---) but I feel like Sony is getting greedy and are putting all their eggs in the same basket look what happened to TASM2
Aug 22, 2021 I’m curious how this is going to affect Sony’s Spider-Man franchises like Venom and Morbius.
Aug 22, 2021 Marvel needs Spider-Man. They just "lost" Iron Man and Captain America. Spider-Man should be in way more MCU movies, I feel like Sony would f--- it up, just like with Venom.
Aug 22, 2021 TASM2 was just Sony, NwH is Sony + Marvel. Doctor Strange will be in this, and Feige is the executive producer along with Pascal just like the previous two films. Some did theorize that back in 2019 when the deal was over, Sony would always go ahead with a Spider-Verse story and just substitute Strange for Madam Web, but Marvel Studios being involved heightens the chance of the movie being great. One prevailing rumor is that by the end of the movie, Strange will tell Peter to lay low and opens a portal for him into another universe, the Venomverse that has both Venom and Morbius in it. After all, there was that one quote Feige made about Spider-Man having the one superpower to jump between cinematic universes. But what I think is gonna happen is that Sony is gonna try to very subtly imply that Venom and Morbius are both in the MCU (MCU meaning the canon universe, not the franchise) and just carefully make sure nothing in the dialogue or plot contradicts any of the installments there. They already kinda hinted at it with Michael Keaton in the Morbius trailer. Well technically there is a new Captain America in the form of Sam Wilson, and Marvel is also developing an Ironheart series presumably to eventually take the place of Tony Stark
Aug 22, 2021 Can't compare those two to Tony and Steve though. Spider-Man should stay in Marvel for a while like they did. They have a lot of new characters, but Spider-Man is Spider-Man.
Aug 22, 2021 I like Tom Holland in the role. His solo films haven't been great though. My interest in this new one is all about Tobey. The world is not ready for the king of memes to return.
Aug 22, 2021 Do they want him? For sure. Do they need him? Absolutely not. They grossed billion dollar smash hits prior to Spider-Man, and they will after as well. The highest grossing Spider-Man movie is their 9th highest grossing film.
Aug 22, 2021 They need some popular heroes tbh. They have Thor, Hulk and who else? Strange if we're generous.
Aug 22, 2021 Every MCU character is popular let’s be honest. They have literally everyone minus Iron Man. (who will return in some capacity) Black panther, dr strange, Wanda, Thor, guardians, antman, fantastic 4, X-men etc. They’re in a good place right now.
Aug 22, 2021 Perhaps since the trailer for Avengers: Endgame, UCM fans haven't been craving a Marvel promo video as much as Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film is set to open around the Christmas season, and fans are making a lot of noise online because of the anticipation. And it looks like Kevin Feige is well aware of all this fuss. At the moment, the president of Marvel Studios is promoting the latest UCM film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In conversation with CinemaBlend, he was asked about the secrets they are keeping, related to Spider-Man: No Way Home, to which he replied: "Honestly, I've seen all the fervor that's on the Internet. But it didn't happen to me that this one would be more secret than the other projects. I think for all our projects... we want to preserve the surprises. That's just why that we keep everything secret"
Aug 22, 2021 Agreed. Tony and Steve were both one of a kind each, but I didn't really like Steve. So I'm fine them passing the mantel. As for Tony, I think that was done because RDJ wanted to move on from the MCU. I dunno if that's actually the case but I heard that back in 2019. In fact I remember back in 2015 how huge the f---ing news was that Spider-Man was gonna become part of the MCU. Before that, people used to say it would just never happen. And now Far From is Sony's first billionaire Marvel movie. my general thought is that the MCU Spider-Man series as superhero movies in general were fine, but disappointing as Spider-Man films, if that makes sense. Kinda the same for Homecoming to me.
Aug 22, 2021 Oh yeah and another thing, for those of you who are fans of Netflix's Daredevil, there is also a rumor that Charlie Cox is in the movie too.
