Dec 10, 2015 Kinda underrated imo. A gem from the NWTS era. “The story of how I got that verse done was so wild … Drake came down for the Irving Plaza show then we went to Best Buy after, got them CDs then we went to the club and he told me he was gonna drop those four songs Friday night,” Cole tells VIBE. “I’m just like ‘Oh, that’s gonna be amazing. We gotta do something’ and he’s like ‘Yo hop on this Jodeci joint that I got.’ In this instance, time was still of the essence for Jermaine. “I’m tellin’ him that I’m gonna do it but I’m thinkin’ about my schedule and how I have no time,” he admits. “Everyday, my day is filled – wake up, go do three radio stations, meet and greet, interviews, then go do an in-store signing, the ‘Dollar and a Dream’ show, the after party then go to the next city.” During his pit stop in Philly, the 28-year-old completed the task right before Drizzy’s loaded release. “In D.C., I went from the club, straight from the after-party to the studio, wrote the verse then we hit around 5:30, 6 a.m.,” he recalls about the partial all-nighter. “I was so tired and was like I gotta finish the rest tomorrow [then] drove to Philly and only got four hours of sleep on the bus, woke up, went straight to the studio, knocked the rest of the verse out and then did a meet and greet. I was really nervous but I got it done.” “That was a big moment and [Drake] killed all of them joints too by the way,” he said. “It was a great night.”
Dec 10, 2015 Not sure. Definitely an L for Cole during a time he was taking a lot of L's. Looking back on it tho I think a lot of Cole fans think of it as funny tbh.
Dec 10, 2015 Always loved this track. This was a GOAT weekend for Drake. He dropped Jodeci, The Motion, Versace, and Over Here with PND. Jodeci was originally just Drake but he got Cole to submit a verse the night before it dropped. Pretty cool story actually. This is from Cole talking about how it came to be: “The story of how I got that verse done was so wild … Drake came down for the Irving Plaza show then we went to Best Buy after, got them CDs then we went to the club and he told me he was gonna drop those four songs Friday night,” Cole tells VIBE. Dec 10, 2015 That's a good read, Cole's Looking For Trouble verse was crafted in similar fashion. When Kanye or Drake call for a verse, you don't flop.
Dec 10, 2015 ahh, didn't realize cole pretty much wrote the verse in a day..makes sense. it's not a bad verse by any means but drake definitely sounds more comfortable on the joint
Dec 10, 2015 I can't recall the full story, but from what I remember, he got a text that Kanye needed a verse quick times for the GOOD Friday joint for that week. Cole had like 6 hours or something, so he wrote the verse in 20 mins (?) in the back of a suburban on the way to an interview (?) and then went to the studio right after that to record it and send it off. I'll try to find the full story, but it's from like 4 years ago so it might be buried. That's essentially what happened though.
Dec 10, 2015 d---, Cole clutch af. On another note I'm starting to think that overall, NWTS era > TC era.
Dec 10, 2015 Word it is man, Drake was so much better as an artist by the NWTS era. I love TC for the ambition, but he was finding his way after the Weeknd and Illangelo showed him the ropes imo. With NWTS you can hear how much more comfortable he was with his new sound.
Dec 10, 2015 Drake was a much improved rapper by NWTS. It is the better album. But I still kinda prefer Take Care due to the nostalgia I guess.
Dec 10, 2015 Exactly. NWTS was his sound. Not taking anything away from TC cause there's some great records on there but if you take the 2 albums, freebies, features and stack them up NWTS was definitely better overall.
Dec 10, 2015 Seeing all of the songs lined up together in @Flacko thread yesterday clinched it for me.
Dec 10, 2015 songs from that era or from the album? cause we can't count "the era" as part of the album take care flows soo well together as an album. every song sounds like it just belongs to one another. nwts is still pretty consistent but the songs are related more on that "extended family" tip
Dec 10, 2015 I'm talking about the era as a whole. I realize it's hard to compare since it's kinda blurred when we try to figure out when each one began & ended, but I like the overall sound from NWTS era slightly more.
Dec 10, 2015 @JCN What did you guys think of Cole's verse when you first heard it? (barring the autistic line)
