Jan 20, 2016 "If it were the other way around and we had white awards, and a channell dedicated to white people, im sure most people would kick up offence" just something to think about I personally think its fine but its an interesting thought when you swap it around the other way
Jan 20, 2016 The way I see it, we all have our form of entertainment and then we mix the entertainment together if necesary. I like african-sitcoms like Martin and I like white sitcoms like Seinfeld so there's a market for both. If there weren't any definition of race then we wouldn't have risk and everything would be bland IMO but since this is how humanity was designed then this is the result.
Jan 20, 2016 with kendrick getting 11 grammy noms i find black talent being appreciated left right and centre BET seems pointless
Jan 20, 2016 im not comparing it to segregation at all im saying having awards for black people in 2016 IS segregation you cant say equality for all races, then hold an all black awards show
Jan 20, 2016 BET has always offended me. Even at a young age I was confused by it and thought it was hateful to only cater to one race.
Jan 20, 2016 smh, it would still technically be segregation since africans have a different culture, mindstate and lifestyle than us. Even back in the 80s when the channel was formed. Keep in mind that BET is owned by Viacom. I will say that having awards for africans makes some sense because there's only so much you can fit into the Grammy's; culture is different, therefore shouldn't there be a show for them? I will say that if they included white rappers in there then the segregation argument would go away. Many whites aren't born with a silver spoon and we embrace rap culture as well as them. It was originally intended to show the intelligent side of Africans according to Wikipedia. The main problem is how cultures stereotype other cultures; it's all vice versa. I guess it's a sense of pride/superiority for ones self/the race.
Jan 20, 2016 I just find it funny that BET is suppose to exist because other channels are mostly white. So why are they crying about the Oscars? Its a contradiction.
Jan 20, 2016 Oscars = mainstream acceptance. By focusing mainly on whites, they're neglecting the people who work just as hard as them. I would appreciate BET more if it weren't for the mainly white-owned Viacom. Yeah they have african-americans running them but it's just like MTV. It's a saturator for african-americans..
Jan 20, 2016 Except it's not "all black." White people have been nominated and won BET awards. The award show was set up in the early 2000's because people felt black music wasn't getting the proper praise it deserved. I don't see an issue with that.
Jan 20, 2016 Ok but then why are they still acting like it? Wasn't having the channel suppose to shut those people up?
Jan 20, 2016 I been saying exactly what he said for awhile before I even seen this. Stop talking about racism and we have a solution.
