Sep 9, 2016 This gem came on shuffle today at work...been known to profess my love for it in the past but phew The lyrics are just phenomenal...I'm talking flow, passion, delivery, wit, rhymes I'm hard pressed to find a song as lyrically dense and well done as this one fam I mean look at this btw WARNING try not to faint when you see how dope these lines are "Never was a thug, just infatuated with guns Never was a gangsta 'til I graduated to one And got the rep of a villain, for weapon concealin' Took the image of a thug, kept s--- appealin'" "It's like pourin' salt in the wounds, assault and get sued You can smell the lawsuits soon as I waltz in the room" so d--- clever and smooth like d--- "Full of controversy until I retire my jersey Till the fire inside dies and expires at 30 And lord have mercy on any more of these rappers that verse me, and put a curse on authorities in the face of adversity" not a syllable wasted, no filler just lyricism
Sep 9, 2016 It's Eminem pretending to be hard and it's kinda embarrassing. Granted, my name comes from this song but I also made this account when I was 13. This was part of his wigger phase he went thru after signing 50.
Sep 9, 2016 Surely you can't deny the song goes balls to the wall though as far as lyricism and flow?
Sep 9, 2016 yea his flow was still effortless at this point. lyricism has never been a problem for him though, when it comes to flat out rapping, he's one of the best but that doesn't always translate into good music.
Sep 9, 2016 I guess he was so much better at music circa-'Soldier' compared to now that it comes off way better as a finished product even when he was being super lyrical.
Sep 9, 2016 yeah i mean even in the past two years, he's dropped some technically great stuff but it's stuff that i will never listen to again because it's just flat out not enjoyable.
Sep 9, 2016 Amazing song, but man... The whole album was and still is dope. Just change "Drips" with "Stimulate" and "Hailie's Song" with "8 Mile Road" >>>
Sep 9, 2016 It's at the point to where say, playing Eminem Show songs to casual buddies of mine could actually appreciate the songs AND lyricism....now if I play a modern Eminem song they would be like "ew what is this nonsense there is no musicality to this at all turn it to Panda"
Sep 9, 2016 I mean...all this really did happen tho. He was pissed off and was venting about his experiences with a gun. I dont see it as trying to act hard, I look at his verse on "Welcome 2 Detroit" being more along the lines of trying be gangsta. I don't think his "Wigger phase" really started until GRODT came out and 50 became the hottest new rapper around. That phase lasted until 2008.
Sep 9, 2016 8 Mile Road wouldn't make sense on The Eminem Show. We'd all be confused by "poor little sister, she don't understand". But 8 Mile is Eminem's greatest song ever.
Sep 9, 2016 Good chorus too d--- I miss the old eminem and I don't see this song as gangsta s---. Trying to act haRd? Yeah, a bit. But like someone pointed out all this happened. He's not just screaming a bunch of empty threats into the mic he's venting his frustration. Soldier seems genuine compared to a song like We Ain't or You Don't Know
