    Big chance I'll be visiting Albania this summer, followed by Spain or a Spanish island in the fall.

    I wanted to see something new, that isn't as crowded as the usual tropical destinations and someone told me Albania is more of an "upcoming" destination.

    Has anyone ever been there? How is it for a holiday? Looking for a nice place near the beach, but with nice bars/terraces and activities to do.

    @Alchemist34 if I remember correctly you are from there right? Any recs?

    Franc is still around? I've only ever been to Mexico and Canada...One day I'll make it somewhere more exotic...I guess...I know it's not tropical or anything but Ireland is definitely somewhere I'm going to go before I die...its me motherland...

    Me and Franz are friends on Facebook, I'll pass your message on.

    Not sure what @Alchemist34 thinks of the country itself, but I don't imagine it to be a "good" holiday destination? we have also had a handful of giggles at the all-Red car in our state that sports an Albanian eagle on its bonnet to match the flag.

    On a serious note @Michael Myers , you need to be careful in Albania. I'm sure there's some lovely spots but if you go to the main tourist locations you're going to get constantly harassed by the gypsies and you'll need to be protecting your wallet/money/phone at all times. Hardly a relaxing experience.

    So my biggest suggestion is to just stay away from the popular tourist destinations.

    i was in Tirana for a couple of days and it was cool. Did a nice tour with a guide and stayed in a relaxed hostel with craft beer and weed. I also read the beaches there are great

    Was there in 2014 for a week, a city at the coast called Saranda. I had a blast there tbh. Clear water to swim in, cheap prices for food and beer. I had been to the tourist cities in turkey before and was used to people coming up all the time from their stores when u passed by trying to lure you in to buy something but they were really respectful and at most yelled "hows it going?" from afar. They also have a cool place called "The blue eye" like half an hour outside of the city which is like a deep water spring that divers yet have not been able to calculate how deep it actually is due to its strong force that push all the water up from the spring, as i recall you are not allowed to jump in it but everybody does it anyways me included. The surrounding is beautiful there too so it is a nice place to just stay and hang there for a day.

    You should def go bro.

    I'd love to go to the Balkins some day, my friend went and said it was amazing. Plus way cheaper than Western Europe.

    Its definitely cheaper. From what I heard, Albania is like Croatia years ago, still not that crowded and therefore a little cheaper.

    I would go to the more tourist spots tho because usually there are more activities. Also, definitely near the beach!

    @Jimelej were you near Tirana too or?

    Ive traveled to some countries and one of the best times ive had while travelling was in Belgrade, Serbia. Just a chill atmosphere everywhere. Met a lot of friendly people there. But ive heard the direct opposite as well but for a long weekend it was great tbh

    Albanians love US Americans because they've helped them during the Kosovo Wars and even further back. My friend sent me a video of a party he was attending in Albania and there was someone just waving a random US flag lmao. You might have a good time there

    Only thing I know of Albania really is from an Eminem line dissing Benzino...

    'If it means walkin' the whole Mediterranean.. Is he an Albanian, Armenian, Iranian, Tasmanian? No! His name's Raymond and, oh, so sorry, yo...'
    If Benzino is from there I'd say watch out for anyone with a jaw line like Quagmire...

    Gypsies are woat but lol at being scared of them even the most persistent ones you just have to shoo them away/yell at them and they'll leave you and go pester someone else. They prey on that p---- a--- first worlder pussyness of being too polite to tell them to f--- off.

    Although pickpocketing can be a propblem in crowded tourist spots, it's probably more the regular albanians you'd have to be careful of stealing your iphone. But tbh it's more a common sense thing it's nothing like those Brazilian videos of getting mugged in broad daylight or being robbed at gun/knife point in some U.S Ghetto

    That said, mandatory video of Bush getting his watch stolen in Albania;

    Also, here's your cab;
