Dec 1, 2014 Even though it was a VERY different era when he was killing it (freestyle vs written, tournaments vs exhibition, the size of the crowds, the type of lyricsm, etc), I think the battle ring is one of the only places left that he'd get any respect nowadays Especially with the type of writing you see on Shady XV or the cypher, and with Joey stepping (and getting embarrassed) in the ring, I think battling is very much on his mind. But you can't just jump in again, especially if you're as famous as Marshall Even though total slaughter wana a joke, I think Em would do great in a battle. He can still rap his a--- off, even if he can barely make music. He'd definitely be better than this pathetic attempt by canibus: Thoughts?
Dec 1, 2014 Returning to a competitive scene like this, might actually spark his interest/wit/whatever and give us some good stuff. He'd probably do better than he does in (most of) his songs nowadays but he'd get rekt by the competition I think, he's been too exposed and too wack for all these years The problem would be if he tried too hard because he'd still sound like he's forcing it and come up with corny punchlines and all the other bad things, if he'd actually go with the flow, maybe freestyle a bit here and there, go back to his roots, who knows. He could be decent imo
Dec 1, 2014 i 100% believe he will be an AMAZING battle rapper now...everything about current eminem fit that style his "corny" punchlines considered hot by their leagues...his "corny" doubletime is considered godly there....he would own it
Dec 1, 2014 he definitely can, his Tim Westwood freestyles from a few years back and the Shady XV Cypher were on point, if he can freestyle that good he can certainly battle
Dec 1, 2014 Eminem still has it in him to do it. If they do another Total Slaughter it would be great to see him participate. The corny punchlines will have to be a miss though but I have no doubt Em can be a battle rapper. All someone needs to do is take a swing of his personal life and Em goes into Terminator mode
Dec 1, 2014 I'd like to see Eminem battling with some newcomer who will point out all his deficiencies and say he's been wack for the last ten years. I wonder how he would respond. The internet will go ham on this guy tho.
Dec 1, 2014 The s--- he had for the cypher would fit perfectly in a battle, along the lines of someone like Dizaster. ^^ this exactly, especially if he does it while being self-aware. Like when Canibus said "tom cruise mom's shoes" or "wise owl" he actually thought he was being hot lmao. But if Eminem, while still rapping technically as well as he has been recently, says some awful punchlines jokingly, people will love it. The double-time and s--- would also go over really well. His years and years of experience performing and the fact that he is still very good at rapping in person would all help with battling. That's the thing, he'd never battle a newcomer though. It would be someone like Dizaster. The battle would be way too publicized for it to be anything else. It would be interesting to see if would/could freestyle rebuttal and whatnot. Or if he would just stick to writtens.
Dec 1, 2014 Probably. He's made a career off attacking people and he's kind of always done it. As unappealing as his music is now, I personally believe he's still capable of creating a good diss track if anything. It's just that hes like 46 and that would look foolish.
Dec 1, 2014 Eminem's verse from the Shady cypher seemed to be loved by battle fans so he has it in him, even with how much battle rap has changed since his days. I know personal disses aren't as important in battle rap as they used to be but you know things would get real personal with Eminem. Could he really handle being on a stage in front of thousands, being viewed by millions, being told about Proof, his daughters, his drug addiction, his past use of the N word, etc....I don't think he could.
Dec 1, 2014 Depends in what scene and who he's battling. KOTD maybe.... I could see him taking a style similar to Dizasters and maybe getting some sort of success but eh... His life is an open book, everyone knows pretty much everything about his life so he'd automatically be put at a disadvantage with that. On a stage like URL he'd get boo'd off without a doubt in my mind. He wouldn't even make it through a round.
Dec 1, 2014 Everybody here is delusional. There is very little crossover between battle rap and music anymore. Eminem did 60 second rounds at Scribble Jam almost twenty years ago. He would only go up against heavyweights now because it'd be a high purse match and he'd get mopped up. It's a dying convention anyway. There's a reason that Grindtime dried up and Scribble went bankrupt.
Dec 1, 2014 Yeah that's one of the reasons I don't think he would step in the ring. And if he did he'd almost definitely do some b---- s--- like have a contract stating no mentions of proof or something
Dec 1, 2014 It's not a "dying convention" at all lmfao where the f--- have you been? Battle rap is by far at its peak in terms of popularity and commercialization at the moment. Diz vs canibus. Diz vs Cassidy. Hollow vs joe budden. Total slaughter. The summer maddness events. Drake, method man, lil wayne, etc etc co signs. Don't flop is huge. Flip top is massive. Also, I don't think anyone's denying that what Eminem did 15 years go is a lot different then what battle rap is today. What we're saying is that his current style of rapping in general would translate well to the scene
Dec 1, 2014 I stand corrected. I guess I was being biased. I honestly thought the scene was a lot stronger a couple years ago and have stopped following it. Regardless, Eminem would get murked.
Dec 1, 2014 hahah yeah I think em would die too. But yeah there's no denying that battle rap is actually reaching its peak. Whether or not the quality is matching the rise is subjective but I personally think it's doing great overall. As long as smack, Organik, lush and the co. continue to do things on their own terms things will keep getting better
Dec 1, 2014 It would take a ton of preparing for to get him back in battle mode but i believe he could do it...couldn't be worse than his recent music
Dec 1, 2014 This might be the whitest thing I'll ever say, but I can't get into Smack. Joke rappers make you life and attack you personally. That's far more entertaining than gun rhymes I'd rather hear on a mixtape.
Dec 1, 2014 Haha some smack rappers get pretty personal (verb, lux, clips, hollow), and some are just very good at their craft (b magic, conceited, etc). You should check out clips vs T. rex which came out recently. clips had one of the best performances of all time, he was channeling god: Also, head ice just one of the best battlers of all time and he just sobbed K shine here. The start of his first rounds has one of the hardest lines everrr playing on shines previous line about how you give someone you shot an "is he dead kick." He says "you ain't gotta give him a dead kick, you can tell how they leg twitch" >>>>>>> omg
Dec 2, 2014 No. He won't be able to pull it off. He's not young and sharp and hungry anymore, not enough to come off the top with brutal insults while staying on relevant topic. Plus with all people know about Eminem, some cats would eat him alive in real competition. I'd LOVE for him to do Diss tracks again but battle rap is a completely different beast. Plus, like someone already said on this thread, Em doesnt have thick enough skin anymore to deal with some of the s--- MFers would talk about. Ems people tell interviewers what they can and cant ask before they interview him. Do you REALLY think Eminem would stand for some muthafucka getting in his face spitting about raping Hailey or dapping the guy who shot Proof or some nutty, merciless s---? f--- no.
