Nov 25, 2014 I stumbled upon this post whilst browsing ItsBX, and whilst 90% of it is incoherent mumbling - the actual points he raises are extremely valid. The quote that stood out most to me was: a very talented rapper who doesn't know how to brand himself and doesn't have the right team around him to guide him into his own lane I think this is 100% spot on to the point where the stuff KRIT has produced for others is more appealing than his own music. KRIT has no personality, or no real agenda within Hip Hop. He seems like the kid at school that everyone likes but no one is really friends with him because he's so quiet. I'm unsure as to whether this may be the case of Def Jam holding him back, or the fact that he really doesn't know how to brand himself. Thoughts on the post/general point welcome.
Nov 25, 2014 Good post mate; I was (and still am) a big fan of KRIT's mixtapes from a few years back. I haven't listened to these in a while as I started losing interest and his debut played a part in this (the point about KRIT's music becoming stagnant finds me in agreement). I saw him as a new, talented rapper (I wasn't aware that he was dropping stuff since 2005, I first listened to him in 2010 and haven't listened to previous tapes) who was kind of an all around player. He was smart, good production, kinda motivational music etc. Your metaphor was good actually. I'd expect him to start standing out more, but his debut was a failure (I think that the label played a part in this, can't be sure though) and it looks like he's still at school repeating 8th grade while other kids are either in college or in the streets selling drugs. He somehow must start making more captivating music, maybe try different concepts/approaches? I don't know, but so far it seems that his best stuff is already made, and that's really disappointing. That said, Cadillactica is easily better than his debut, I don't think it's as good as his earlier mixtapes but he could get some momentum from this and find what works better for him.
Nov 26, 2014 Krit never was a rapper who could tear the whole hip-hop scene down. His debut album was a product of too excessive demands from the fans and it was clear in the music and lyrics. Cadillactica type of album, in terms of quality, is what I want hear from him. It's not a AOTY candidate, but should we really expect dropping classics by this guy? I don't think so.
Nov 27, 2014 If the strength of KRIT Wuz Here and Return of 4Eva is anything to go by then yes, I would say this is an artist capable of making a classic. But I think he peaked too soon and has ultimately ran out of things to rap about.
Nov 27, 2014 I couldn't agree more. I was very excited for his new album after hearing mount Olympus and again he falls short. Cadallatica isn't a bad album by any means but when he put it side by side against his first 3 mixtapes the drop in quality is very noticeable.
