50 Cent's Style Hasn't Aged Well

I was listening to Animal Ambition and it got me thinking how 50 Cent went from being heard in almost every household to not very relevant anymore. He hasn't dropped an album since 2014 but aside from the hardcore fans that album didn't really get much buzz at all. And it's not a bad album.

The main reason I think guys like Kanye or Eminem have managed to stay relevant in this day and age is because their music keeps evolving and is different from one album to another. You listen to one album then go to another and they don't sound anything alike.

50 has pretty much stuck to the same style of music throughout his career and I don't think that style aged very well.

We could argue that the quality of the music is not as good as it once was but I don't think that's the sole reason. He still drops quality stuff. I think the fact that he hasn't changed his recipe over the years is a major reason.

    Thoughts?

Btw, y'all should go relisten to Animal Ambition if you have the chance. That album is slept on.

I think 50's just washed. Kanan Tape was aight but he hasn't dropped a good album since The Massacre.

I feel like his style and sound just don't mesh as well as they used to. Like his GRODT/Massacre days he LOOKED hungry, you know?

Now he has that rich/chubby/buff style but his music doesn't have that rich vibe that you get from Jay-Z and Rick Ross so his whole image just sort of fell into mediocrity.

I have a similar feeling about Busta Rhymes. Even Eminem to an extent (it's just not the same when you rap about murdering people with that beard)

I thought Curtis was a good album. Not on the same level as GRODT and The Massacre obviously, but a good album on it's own.

True that everything after The Massacre is considerably weaker but I think a song like Too Rich for the b---- would have been a club hit 15 years ago.

The lack of evolution in his music has played a big part imo. But there's no denying the quality is not the same anymore.

I felt like he pulled it off decently for “We Up”. But I agree 100% and I still bump his mixtapes

he had a very limited skillset and he pushed it to its limits for a few years. It was a really good run. But it's not surprising he ran out of steam

it didn't help that he's so financially focused that he was always chasing a hit. Stacking your albums with songs like Amusement Park and So Amazing and Candy Shop and whatever other forgettable rehashes of old hits I'm forgetting ensures that you're going to be stuck with filler. If he had just loosened up and made good music (rather than the music he thought everyone wanted to hear) he probably could've gotten more mileage out of his rap career

    Good points.

    Agreed on all parts.

The fact that he's so business incined and has had different business ventures to focus on definitely played a role. The hunger hasn't been the same since The Massacre.

Solid points. If he had dropped singles like I'm The Man or We Up in place of the trash you mentioned he'd be much more respected at least. I still think his music career would ultimately be over though because of his decision to goto war with Jimmy Iovine.

He can still put together a hit if he wants to. It sucks that he has stopped caring about music.

Amusement Park greatly harmed 50's career commercially.
It was a truly desperate attempt at Candy Shop Pt 2.

50 lost his aura after the loss to Kanye. He had very few hits after I get Money.

He's still relevant is f---. Just not in the music industry. I'd love him to release another mainstream album but I'm equally happy with him investing in greatness such as Power.

And let's not forget that he is the undisputed social media troll of the decade.

I just now noticed the similarities lol

But I doubt one song harmed his career.

I do believe that with all this buzz he has with his other business ventures, and his growth on social media, he could drop a full album that will sell. And given it has the right singles. Not so sure he could pull a surprise album out, but who knows.

Kanan tape was great imo. I’m the Man is one of my favourite 50 songs.

I'd love for him to be relevant in music again but content with what we have from him now.

I do think that one day we will get the infamous SKI though.

And the Power theme song is a classic imo. He still has the ability to be musically great, with the right inspiration.

I was gonna mention this one, tbh. One of his better more-recent songs.
