so he's not an MC thats voicing the lifestyle (and subsequently the struggles) of a marginalized group? He's not providing those he grew up with, with his slang, ideologies, constraints, etc, a voice?

You dont think the kid was trapping since he was 9 has a mind that was "oppressed?"

thug's got some pretty sweet dance moves too brah

and hes used some pretty big words b4 if that helps that part you bolded

no i don't, you dolt. hip-hop has incredible political implications whether or not its practitioners fit your narrow idea of what it means to be political.

But he could just be a homophobe making fun of gay people, right? That's a lot worse than I ever done to gay people.

He's marrying a lady in Georgia... A place where gay people aren't allowed to get married... Is he doing anything to change that?

I'm willing to bet you and WPG hated on Macklemore two years ago. Now I'm not going to say Macklemore is a great MC. He is average... and if you played me an acapella of Macklemore and MGK back to back and neither of them mentioned Seattle or Cleveland I couldn't tell which ones which....
but Ryan Lewis is a huge talent. His beats are fantastic and he made world class music using features from singers that all live within ten miles of his house.
The Heist is an important record. Macklemore and "Same Love" were bashed by homophobes... actual homophobes that don't want gay people to have the same rights as us. Are you accused of being a homophobe when you say Macklemore sucks? Are you accused of being immature or hateful?

These thugger love/hate topics entertain me a great deal, they really do!

However that being said, on the contrary to Narsh's opinion that this contrast will make the section successful, I think this will eventually ruin it. Serious content/discussion will get overrun/shadowed by the same old same old dead-end discussions/trolling, which will eventually lead this section to becoming the second worst section next to the Stan Zone (in regards to artist discussions/content). Either way good luck and I'll be enjoying the show! :stephena:

i don't really feel the need to weigh in on the politics of young thug's career (he's pretty evidently not a homophobe to me), but i disagree that ryan lewis is a "huge talent." i think both he and macklemore are fundamentally good people and i'm happy for their success, but the heist is thoroughly, thoroughly forgettable.
