Nay. Compton came and went with the exception of the greatest rap song of the 10's(and maybe all-time?)- Darkside/Gone

Yes but don't you think the initial reception points to need for reevaluation, especially since it apparently featured on of the greatest songs OAT/the decade ? low key classic status yip

again, yes. but I don't think that inherently disqualifies it. @Donkey Kong Cuntry put it best actually - wonderful feather in the cap from dre. like, he couldnt or shouldnt be f---ing with chicago trap nahmean?

it's def rap that likely skews toward older millennials/gen x folk, but it definitely sounds crisp and contemporary.

There were no big singles from it so there's no Forgot About Dre or Nothin But a G Thang to enter rap canon/songs that normies know.

    Nay

Haven’t listened to it at all since it dropped, so maybe I need to revisit it. I was hyped when it dropped but once I finished it I felt disappointed.

Compton unfortunately carried with it unattainable expectations that came with the ghosts of Detox and Dre's planets concept album.

Add to that, the 15+ years of false starts and broken promises, as well as the hype from the biopic, I think it was only natural that everyone held it to a higher standard. Anything less than his first two classics would've always been viewed with an intense critical lens.

Like in all honesty yeah, it's underwhelming when put up against his debut and sophomore effort, as well as his NWA cuts. However, I think cutting through the fat and just listening to it in a vacuum it holds up alright. There are highlights aplenty, and it really feels alright as swan song project for Dre.

I ducking LOVE Compton. Not as much as I do revival, but it’s a fantastic album. Y’all act like it came and went, but nowadays what doesn’t? In the age of streaming, social media, ADHD kids, and short attention spans, no albums or songs have longevity like they used to. We are on to the next one so fast we barely get to enjoy it.

Compared to 99% of the s--- that comes out, this was a big breath of fresh air.

I can see that for sure, but to me this lacks the innovation/creativity to be compared to his more significant work and lacks the quality/polish to justify the former. Whether it’s here, a gunna and lil pump feature, or somewhere in between, its a matter of execution not aesthetic imo

Again I say all this but I haven’t listened since like idfk, months after release? I think I’ve switched phones twice without downloading it to my library either time. I’ll revisit tn

Yay easily. Perfect combination of that vintage Dre sound w modern sound and a great mix of veterans ALL doing their thing and new artist shining.

Yeah we're all mad about Detox but don't see how that has anything to do w the quality this album, its really good.
