Jul 20, 2021 Jay and Nas are too old and don’t drop often enough to be in this discussion and Jay is my top 1 of all time
Jul 20, 2021 Closest would be Pop. Some people will say Bobby, but he's probably done and had like 2 big songs.
Jul 20, 2021 They both still active Jay dropped in 2017, 2018 with Bey, and 2020 with Jay Electronica (that was a collab project idc what people say) Nas dropped in 2018, 2019 (Lost Tapes 2) and 2020. They old, but still way better than younger ones.
Jul 20, 2021 They both transitioned to being elder statesmen years ago, they’re not out there competing with other rappers and have nothing to prove. Not even Jay and Nas themselves would put their names in this discussion
Jul 20, 2021 I know but other than that, all they had is Pop at the very end of the decade and he was killed. Rocky fell off a long time ago in my opinion, and he pretty much made southern rap Bobby had a few songs a decade ago and most likely will live off the artists featured on his tracks. I'm ready to be wrong, but I think his career is over.
Jul 20, 2021 As much as I hate 69 as a person, I think this is the right answer. His rise to the top and subsequent fall and everything were too big not to pay attention to. Cardi is an international phenomenon and it would be awkward to anoint a female rapper as "king of newyork" imo. The question is...who was it before Tekashi? Papoose maybe?
Jul 20, 2021 Nah it’s always been the city no one cares about upstate NY lol. Even tho Buffalo is low key a dope city.
Jul 21, 2021 In terms of success, it was definitely Asap Rocky (excluding women). If we count women, nicki, then cardi. Bobby was never going to be KONY. Pop Smoke would have been KONY
Jul 21, 2021 Nobody ever was or will be King of NY. There is no clear definition what this title is even supposed to mean. It's just a leftover from Biggie's days
