That's totally fair if that's what you listen to rap for, but you gotta admit there's more artists who pack in lyrics like that that make you have to rewind and listen multiple times like ghostface or GZA

alright i’m late on this but Nelly is absolutely deserving of a spot. 50 too, even if it’s just off the strength of GRODT.

I’ve always thought Danny’s brown has had a lot more influence than he’s given credit for.

Yeah Em was - and still is, to some extent, a very good lyricist but to say the Goat is a stretch. He may have come very close back in the early 2000s but Em never reached the heights of Jay or Nas or Big. Or Ghostface or Doom or Andre.

In terms of 2010s influence and impact, Kendrick and Future are neck and neck at this point imo. Both totally different approaches but equally effective. Honestly though, it’s probably Future, for the reasons @Big Cuntry already pointed out.

So for me, I don’t really get into rankings about who’s the best. I have a favorite all time five though, that I know mean the most to me. Number one is solidified, but the rest are interchangeable.

    1. Kanye West
    Lil Wayne
    Kendrick Lamar
    Eminem
    Kid Cudi

I don’t really listen to Eminem at all anymore, but it would be disingenuous to say he’s not in my top 5 favorites of all time just because he was the one who made me like rap in the first place and I stanned forever. But when I say I don’t listen to him anymore, I don’t even really revisit his older stuff either. Maybe like once every three years, it’s just not for me anymore

You are right but ur saying 'stuck in 2004'.

I mean.. if someone in 2004 had Xzibit in their top 10, and still do today, how is that different from having Biggie & Pac in ur top 10 fifteen years later?

You can argue whether they deserve to be in a top 10 of course but I don't think it matters if the list is made in 2000 or 2020.. people list their top 10 OAT which can be the same after 20 years.

I don't have either in my top 10 btw , but around 20-30 because I enjoy both a lot. Jay could make 5 albums that s--- in the next 2 years but he won't lose the nr1 spot for me. Same w Eminem being around 20 because of the good stuff he did.

@joeyp363 post was spot on but lets be real most people here make their list based on personal preference... a 'best' rapper is also what you look for.. you can't compare Kanye to Nas at all but imo they're pretty equal.. for different reasons. Same as, lets say, Dr. Dre or Future.

Some people say Kanye sucks, others have him as top 5. Really depends what u value most in a rapper/artist.

If we're being real a list like top 10 rappers of all time that includes biggie jay nas pac etc shouldn't really change at all except when ur bringing in newer rappers after an amount of time (gucci/thug etc).

Btw I think looking at all these lists we can for sure say now that Jay really is the greatest.

Maybe make a definite list out of these? I did that w Soldier a few years back, have everyone make a top 10 , count the points (nr 1 has 10, 10 has 1) and make a list.

Jay is #1, not really close. Then in rough order, it’s:
    Big
    Ghostface
    Wayne
    p---- C
    Andre
    Ice Cube
    Snoop
    Pac
    Nas

@Big Cuntry i will allow ppl to say they enjoy other rappers for different reasons. Such as sonically or whatever. But wordplay should be non-negotiable going forward
