Rio Da Yung OG & Louie Ray - Movie
"This s--- sound like a movie," says grizzled punchline king Rio Da Yung OG as the beat crashes through the speakers like a big-budget action feature. Then its just a chaos of quotables; with fellow Michigan native Louie Ray at least having the decency to take pity on his foes - "let me cut my arms off before I ball, make it fair", but Rio in full-out opp blasting mode, "preparing for shootouts thats a week away". I use the word 'cinematic' to describe music a lot, but this one hits the mark perfectly.

Heat is still GOAT no denying that but I must say 98 Sabres is something else. Song of the year so far? Possibly. Just Blaze absolutely cooking up some Buffalo Wild Wings with that beat. Armani Caesar Salad doing gangsta things on the mic like the old Lil Kim. And lastly, Conway with the flow and hardest delivery I’ve heard since “Tragic Endings”
rest of the album was meh. Wish it all sounded like 98 saber tooth tigers.aleeex1923, Sav Stanfield, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -

21 Savage - SPIRAL: From the Book of Saw Soundtrack [EP]
Could there possibly be a better suited rapper to helm this soundtrack? I dont think so. The title track is a straight up all-time 21 classic. The Nudy tracks bangs as expected. And I don't know who 21 Lil Harold is but with Real Recognize Rio, who I've been watching for a while now, it looks like 21s already taking steps to start building the Slaughter g--- empire. Count me in.
Kodak Black - Haitian Boy Kodak
They're not Dying to Live or even Painting Pictures, but I'm still enjoying the little projects and singles Kodak's dropped since he's been out. This one even more than Bill Israel. It sounds like Kodak's just straight up having fun and I'm loving how he's used this to pay homage to his Haitian roots. He should team up with Mach-Hommy lol. This was dope but I just kinda wish there was more. And d---, that flute on Z Look Jamiacan has been stuck in my head for the past week straight.
J. Cole - The Off Season
I've done a full 180 on Cole in the past few years. I found most of the music he made in the last decade boring af and didn't give it much a fair chance. I mean i still wouldn't call any of those albums classics or anything but I do have a newfound appreciation for them (even Sideline Story lol). It started when I finally went back to listen to his old mixtapes - Friday Night Lights, in particular, which I still think might be his best work to date. Then that insane feature run. And topped off with the surprisingly good ROTD3. The Off Season is great. Like almost everything in his career, nothing groundbreaking, but the best he's sounded in a minute (at least since 4YEO). He did good picking the features he did, all of em k--- it and add a much-needed touch of variety (Cam, Cole and Lil Jon is a combo I never thought I'd hear but it somehow works). I've always liked Cole as a producer and even though he brings in some new names here, this sounds very much like a Cole project, that kinda breezy, beautiful Kanye-influenced mix that keeps your head nodding but provides enough open space for Cole to spill his heart, which he does of course, to mostly positive effect. I'd call it a W for Jermaine.

@Sav Stanfield I'm sure I've asked you this before but can't remember...
Where do you find all these new artists? Do they just appear in your suggested feed on streaming platforms? I'd say that's probably most likely but I'm sure you've posted about stuff that isn't available on streaming.
And any suggestions on go-to sites to DL the new stuff that isn't a big release? I don't use streaming for one reason or another so I use PP for all my new music needs bit they never have any of the more unheated of stuff. Genuinely want to get into newer stuff, a couple of the tracks you posted above are right up my alley and want to delve further.Sav Stanfield, Yeez and Ordinary Joel like this. -

These regional scenes popping up all over the place are hard to keep up with. There's a lot of standardisation and borrowing and copying - of flows, instrumentals, even slang (Cali/Michigan is the best example), but what I find so interesting is that these little highly differentiated, unique sub-scenes emerge from all the mixing and matching, and inevitably rise to the top. Its like heated chemicals bouncing around in a container - some will merge to form new compounds, others bounce off each other.
Quin NFN and Lil 2z are 2 Texan up-and-comers right at the forefront of The Lone Star State right now. 2z graced Quinn with a feature on his best song yet and Quinn returns the favour on the aptly titled From Dallas to Austin, off 2z' 2 Different Worlds EP that dropped a few weeks ago. Quin and 2z are natural collaborators; Quin's higher-pitched chaotic register slices through 2z' sneering, measured baritone like a hot knife through butter as the two go back and forth over an eery whistling bounce.

Every time I listen to Hoodrich Pablo Juan I think about how I don't listen to enough Hoodrich Pablo Juan. His latest drop from last year - Master Sensei 2 is my favorite of his releases since the The Matrix collaboration he put out with EDM producer Brodinski way back in 2018. The tape is full of highlights top to back, but Paranoid might just be one of the best songs Pablo's ever made.
