Feb 4, 2017 Finally, someone with the ability to form an intelligent thought. I completely agree with everything you said except the 30/70 split, I'd probably have that at 50/50. There's no doubt that the reason his music isn't appealing to most is simply because we've grown up. Even his first 3 albums, whichever i still consider great pieces of work, are a bit of a chore to listen to now. One of the biggest things he had going for him was shock value, in the age of the Internet that's just not easy to reproduce, especially in adults. I can't remember the last time I was genuinely shocked about anything, much less lyrics in a song. Without that shock value he's just a dude that raps intricate bars. Nostalgia definitely plays a big part, a lot of people probably associate his earlier work with a simpler time in their life and are disappointed when a new release doesn't take them back to that place. He could walk into Target if he wanted to, the fact that he "can't" is down to his own social issues. I don't actually believe he's screwing up intentionally, he's old and we're older that's all there really is to it, this "theory" was just a passing thought that I chose to share. I'm a firm believer that even the wildly inaccurate has potential to be entertaining. That's a cool story about Springsteen, I don't think i would have contained myself there. Probably would have pretended I didn't see him and started singing Born To Run in the hope it would prompt a spontaneous duet.
Feb 4, 2017 Yup. It's really sad we'll never hear that again. On the bright side, at least he released a s--- ton of quality music from SSLP through the Encore era. That's a long reign and many songs. Most other artists have a fraction of that.
