Dec 1, 2014 Perhaps. I've never died, so I don't know the answers. I'm not too worried about it, and will find out when the time comes.
Dec 1, 2014 Unless there's nothing to find out and we're just like every other mammal/animal/living being in the world. And only because we have a brain do we get so lost in these musings
Dec 1, 2014 Nothing happens when "we" die. "We" (well, our individual consciousness') simply cease to exist.
Dec 1, 2014 I'm not sure at this point but I came across this which makes me think something after death is possible. "There is scientific evidence to suggest that life can continue after death, according to the largest ever medical study carried out on the subject. A team based in the UK spent the last four years seeking out cardiac arrest patients to analyse their experiences, and found that almost 40 per cent of survivors described having some form of “awareness” at a time when they were declared clinically dead. Experts currently believe that the brain shuts down within 20 to 30 seconds of the heart stopping beating – and that it is not possible to be aware of anything at all once that has happened. But scientists in the new study said they heard compelling evidence that patients experienced real events for up to three minutes after this had happened and could recall them accurately once they had been resuscitated." http://www.independent.co.uk/news/s...experiences-may-actually-be-real-9780195.html
Dec 2, 2014 That's fine if you enjoy it. I find that I favor escapism. There are plenty of philosophical lessons in the various artforms available to me. Philosophy just seems like a jumping point for becoming a pretentious douche or a fanatic. Something I'll be more prepared to pursue when I'm older.
Dec 2, 2014 Hahah yeah I personally use it as a form of escapism ya know? And I'm not formally educated in philosophy so I guess that's how I avoid being pretentious with it. I'm more about finding solace through discussion
Dec 3, 2014 Dymethyltrptamine is released and then you go to the next vessel. No way is this liofe all of life.
Dec 3, 2014 Being an atheist I believe it all just goes to black and then non-existence but I'm interested to see what happens. But like imagine if you get reincarnated as like a bug, that'd be some bull s---.
Dec 3, 2014 Nothing. I believe that consciousness isn't attached to the physical body, merely manifested through it. Hallucinations and dreams are just your consciousness tapping into the non physical aspect.
Dec 3, 2014 Crowded? If we had souls we'd literally have the whole universe to roam around. Why is it hard to fathom that everyone has a soul? Everyone has a body. 7 billion people can physically fit on one relatively small planet I think our souls would have some room to f--- around. I slightly lean towards reincarnation. What if you're subconscious thoughts and actions are driven by your previous life experiences? Maybe there is a path to enlightenment but to truly be enlightened you must begin to learn yourself; what drives you in your personal primal instinct. Perhaps if you begin to know and learn yourself questions might start getting answered. I don't know. I think this s--- is so interesting I could have a conversation on it all day.
Dec 3, 2014 To separate the soul from the body is to separate the physical from the non-physical. If we're talking about a soul and afterlife, we probably have to drop the talk about the physical body and decomposition or cremation of it. This physical body we're in would just be a temporary embodiment of our soul that we latch on to for roughly 100 years and then move on.
Dec 4, 2014 I was raised Catholic and I adamantly believed in God and heaven most of my life. I still do believe in God and try to have faith but the older I get and the more horrible things I see in this world it really makes me question my faith. Also knowing how big the universe is now, etc, the Earth is smaller than a grain of sand in comparison. Why would our planet and our race have its own afterlife? Does that mean aliens would have their own separate afterlife? Do animals go anywhere when they die? It's mind boggling. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just like you were before you were born. Just an indescribable infinite nothing. Pretty scary to think about. This is why I would never commit suicide. If this life is really all we have then I wanna be here as long as possible.
Dec 8, 2014 Well I can say, as a fact, that when you die as long as your brain is in somewhat tact DMT is still active in your mind for a while after death. Even if you have your head chopped off your brain can still process what you see/smell/etc for a limited amount of time because your brain/body is working a s--- ton even after you die. DMT is shot into your brain the day you're born and the moment you die. There is a guarantee that as long as you aren't blown to bits or cremated or shot in the head, you will experience SOMETHING after death. Something dream-like, something super surreal. Maybe you get the answers to your human experience, maybe you revisit your whole life (h--- this life for all we know could be a trip) Afterwards, in my honest belief, we come from whence we came. We're a manifestation of the Universe, we are whether by design or by chance a creation of the Universe. To this Universe are laws, strict laws, and we are part of the law. We had a purpose in this universe before we were born, and we'll serve that physical purpose after we die. We may be a part of a star one day, h--- there are vases you can put your ashes into that literally bloom you into a tree. Our consciousness is also a product of the universe, and personally I believe the universe works under a ''consciousness". We're all a part of such a greater picture, as insignificant as we are.
