Apologist mean you'll say all this, then turn around and make claims that Travis has only "noticbly" bit others on 10ish tracks (lol) and that we should leave him alone

I'm willing to bet my plus status that I've never once said anything along the lines of "pls no don't be mean to twavvy" and that you can't find an instance of it

That's what you're implying by saying "he's subjectively good" or whatever

La flame is derived from la flare and the Scott is from Scott mescudi

Going into his music expecting anything other than variations of trap and kanye/cudi-ish s--- is kind of naive in that light

yeah, and that's blatant biting and he should be mocked for it.

you've talked a lot about expectations. you've said that while Travis might be (in your estimation) mildly derivative, we should judge him on his execution. fine, let's do that: he's simply not as GOOD at anything as Gucci/Thug/Future/etc/etc/etc. he's biting, but most importantly, he's doing a terrible job at it.

see, this isn't the kind of thing you should admit to other people.

look, no one's trying to come to your house and wipe your hard drive of travis scott songs. but you're defending him in ways that are critically and logically unsound. he's an imitator who lacks perspective, charisma, or even really the basic ability to rap well.

I only recently started listening to Travis and I think terrible is a bit too harsh. I have to agree though that everything he's good at has been done and done much better. I just listened to Zombies and it sounds like EXACTLY like MOTM era Cudi. The beat, singing/rapping, even the way he says youuuu knooooooow.

Edit: This is from that deadspin article released in February. Sums him up pretty well.

By now, some Travis apologists among you may be thinking, Whatever, man, he's just influenced by the music around him—and if it sounds good, who cares if he's biting? First of all, there is a clear distinction between stealing from someone and being influenced by them. Influence—even heavy influence—takes a sound or a style and twists it, contorts it, adds new dimensions so that the original remains recognizable but distinct. Tyler, the Creator is a good example of this: You can smell the Neptunes influence on his beats a mile away, but none of them sound exactly like something the Neptunes would make—only something that someone who listened to a lot Neptunes beats would make. Or take Scott's new tourmate, Young Thug: you can't listen to a Thugger song without conjuring the image of Lil Wayne, but instead of a clone, he sounds like the freakish offspring of the original Martian and the local Southern styles that bubbled up in Wayne's wake.
