To p---- A Butterfly won all of these accolades, but @WPG apparently knows some people in the industry who actually hate the album in secret. Conveniently, that's impossible to confirm, and therefore a useless argument.

If true it would further corrupt the role of a critic.. Which to me means losing respect for them altogether..

lol. lots of critics i know aren't half as high on it as others (as will be revealed, i assume, come p&j time, but has been said publicly already on twitter/in individual ballots). and plenty of rappers aren't that into it.

but you realize that there's a fundamental difference between me pointing that out and these weirdos building an argument on the album's metacritic score, right? i made mention of the people i know who aren't enamored with the album in response to someone--maybe you--saying "everyone in the industry loves it." it was a correction, not the basis of my argument. meanwhile there are people in this thread arguing that kendrick's album is good because of these lists.

as usual, i expect you to make an intellectually dishonest post then abandon the thread. don't wanna get laughed out of your own discussion again?

Metacritic score shows critical consensus better than "twitter/ in individual ballots", so while metacritic obviously doesn't mean everything, it holds more weight than the "correction" (not argument lel) you made.

Also, I dont remember the exact topic, but the thread you're referring to I made before I left for work and then was too lazy to go back to. If you haven't noticed, I don't use this site much anymore. But maybe I'll go back to that thread this weekend!

yeah but you're assuming that the mean of a bunch of corporate-sponsored publications' lists is a meaningful consensus to draw. i'm saying that individual reviews make stronger arguments, because who care what Time thinks about sleater-kinney?

critics ain't the only ones who rated it high

just look at rym for example, it's one of the highest rated albums of the last 10 years in any genre on that site, and only rankings from the listeners matter.

For your information, metacritic weighs these reviews differently. Larrys Music Reviews doesn't have the same weight as Pitchfork, which rebutted your argument about Time.

You're basically here trying to say your opinion outweighs everyone else's because you apparently make such better arguments. You don't.

i'm saying that aggregating scores doesn't mean anything. critical arguments do. you're powerfully stupid almost all of the time.
