i love how, even with the topics em is rapping about, this track is so bright and sunny sonically because of their deliveries and selektah’s perfect sparseness with this beat

    This is true.
But Eminem is 50 now & his style of music has never really suited being so old & still rapping.

I think if he retired after the Recovery era it would have been a great time to leave. MTBMB was a decent enough project though

airplanes 2 verse is great but this is only a memorable era because it marked such a drastic change for him (from both relapse and his original sound). almost all of this music aged like milk and is full of dated beats, soulless pop reference hooks, and awful rappity rap lyrics. Prob his worst album/era besides revival.

i wouldn’t go quite this far, but there are some songs, like hctw, ltwyl2, numb, clmr, i can’t even play. even later lp2 era features like kfy and revenge, after all he learned doing xv, southpaw, medicine man, etc, are literally unlistenable. not to even mention the 3 completely worthless “albums” he’s posted since revival. but then he drops tracks like is this love, jimmy brian & mike and use this gospel, where he’s like a totally different person, and he knows exactly what sounds good and what people are looking for. i really wanna to know what the new album he’s working on is like

those cd’s are not eminem lp’s like the original 4, relapse, recovery, mmlp2 and revival are. comparatively, there’s no personal exploration, detailed rhymeschemes, or conceptual sonics, whatsoever. bc, ily, but there literally isn’t enough room on koolo’s server for the post i could write explaining how wrong i think you are about this. hey, maybe it’s down to personal preference man

I'd argue mtbmb albums feel more like Eminem albums than anything since Relapse, and mmlp2/recovery/revival (and bad meets evil/shady xv/etc for that matter) often feel like Eminem fan fiction

what do you mean by "conceptual sonic" ?

mmh. i’m not used to replying to someone who thinks on this level. your observation about how recovery em and on is like a stan thinking of what em would say is incredibly insightful... and accurate… i never thought of it this way. i must further consider this. but i do think you’re wrong about his post revival cd’s, or the features from his post-revival eras, being a return to form, except maybe kickoff and killshot. like i mentioned, the personal details are sparse af and this fact isn’t erased by any amount of technics or zero f---s attitude. at least on recovery-revival he’s talking about what he THINKS people wanna hear. but since the reception to revival and the 2chainz remix, on all his cd’s he’s been passive aggressively blathering about crap nobody f---ing cares about. but now, the rhyming on use this gospel, the storytelling on jimmy brian & mike, and the delivery on is this love, are on a totally different level than ANY of his 2010-early2021 stuff. he can consolidate what he’s been learning this year to create a new top 3 album. and by conceptual sonics, i mean the belief the whole cd should not only sound cohesive, but should also not sound like any other cd ever. em literally personified this belief on every cd he posted sslp all the way to our house and h--- the sequel. then idk wtf happened. rick f---ing rubin happened. then trap happened. now em doesn’t know what a f---ing cohesive album sounds like despite creating like 9 of them

I think the combination of the pretty good flows and energy with kinda half-hearted rappity s--- that he had during that despicable, drop the world, forever run and scattered over Recovery would have been a much more interesting direction than the pathetic unlistenable rappity rap fails of his late career but they still werent gr8

I've always thought Airplanes 2 was extremely overrated. The vocal delivery is just awkward. Definitely one of the better verses from the period but otherwise very forgettable.
