Feb 7, 2023 The game was pretty brutal and messy in the standoff scene after the crash in the game. Shielded away from that in the show, like the off screen deaths of the Hunter and Doctor. Director gave a reason why it’s not violent but doesn’t make sense to me.
Feb 7, 2023 https://www.thegamer.com/hbos-the-last-of-us-less-violent-than-game/ What makes Joels fate understandable is the brutality of his actions. Even the beating of the Fedra guard was pretty much off screen too.
Feb 7, 2023 I guess I kind of get what's he's saying. If everything is super violent it loses its effect. That old lady in the first episode munching on her daughter was pretty f----- up though. I honestly didn't even notice this until you mentioned it but yeah now that I think about it nothing has been overly gory outside of that. We've also only really had one episode with clickers which I'm fine with, as the game gets ridiculous with how many you encountered and was very repetitive. Next weeks looks like they'll be back
Feb 7, 2023 Just not a fan of off screen deaths and did it twice in the episode. Didn’t mind the shooting not showing any blood or what ever. But I think Joel killing the hunter, when he was injured, young and scared, just so he doesn’t talk should have been shown if going by Mazins reasons. They humanised him and showing that unnecessary violence would have worked Perfect for that moment. I was confused how he killed him because it was shown offscreen.
Feb 9, 2023 same I enjoy it a lot, story gameplay everything and when pay comes in at the end of this month gonna replay the part 1 for PS5 and part 2 and go for platinum in both games The TV show for me is bad I don't think I'll watch it anymore.
Feb 9, 2023 I’m going to plat part 2. And I kinda enjoy the show, I thought ep 3 was good but last one was a bit boring.
Feb 9, 2023 At least we are getting this new episode tomorrow instead of Sunday because of the Super Bowl
Feb 9, 2023 TLOU2 was very meh. The beginning started off good (hopefully they don't use that in the show) and got boring pretty quick. The ending s----d also. I appreciate them following the 1st story since it was actually good and exciting but would be more than ok with them going in another direction for the 2nd season.
Feb 9, 2023 I think some people just hate it cause of what happens early in the game and others just hate cause there’s a lil tranny lol great game tbh. Can’t wait to see Abby on the show.
Feb 9, 2023 When 2 came out he said that was it. Now with the success of the show, maybe they'll make another one, but he's said that he thinks the 2nd one had a "strong" ending. There's been no development for a 3rd yet. The fact they thought the 2nd one had a good ending for the series is kinda corny
Feb 9, 2023 Yeah Uncharted was a great series. He's said they're not making another one though unfortunately which I get
Feb 10, 2023 I wasn't 100% sold on this adaptation after the first ep, but after 3-4 I definitely am. At first it was kinda just like — when TLOU came out the big thing about it was it was able to execute a narrative that felt "cinematic" in a way that not many video games had up until that point. I've already seen this, do I really need to watch live action versions of all the cut scenes? But they've expanded it in a way that makes sense and Zaddy Pedro + Bella Ramsey have really good chemistry. For once I agree with @Marsh tho, I thought TLOU2 was great and better than the first one...the simple ability to go prone and crawl around in bushes and stuff opened up the stealth gameplay a surprising amount. I played on the second hardest difficulty and it felt almost like one of the more linear Metal Gear Solid games in that respect but with survival horror elements. It was definitely a little bit too long but I thought the story was well executed overall. Spoiler: The Last of US Part II Obviously Joel is a great character and I was bummed he got killed off so fast and I get why people didn't like that...but I thought the resulting story ended up being brilliant. You start as Ellie on a revenge mission, the game builds you up to hate abby more and more as it goes on. And then all of a sudden you have to play as Abby and you're like why the f--- do I have to play as this b---- I hate this piece of s---. But the more time you spend with Abby the more you start to empathize with her as well. In addition to a new POV character, it also shows you a lot more of the different types of civilizations that have popped up to try to rebuild humanity to further take you outside of the sorta insular perspective of Joel and Ellie from the first game and the first half of the second. While the first game is more directly focused on the survival of Joel and Ellie specifically, the second one is more focused on how humanity at large is surviving and the trauma of that survival...and how all the s-----y things people do when trying to survive have a ripple effect on others. Also, as someone who lived in Seattle most of my life, it was really cool seeing how accurately they depicted a lot of the city.
Feb 10, 2023
Spoiler: LOU2 Spoiler no disagreement that the game play was better than the first, I just didn't love the story. I didn't think it was terrible, but it was drawn out and there was no payoff. That ending was not great, especially when at the time they said they weren't making a sequel and that was it. Joel dying is fine for the game but they can't afford to do that with a tv series imo. No way Ellie, or if they do have an Abby character can carry it.
Spoiler: TLOU2 Losing Pedro Pascal will be a huge hit for sure but I'm sure they'll have him in flashbacks like the game at least and I don't think it's an immediate death warrant for the show by any means. I think it will depend on how Ellie is developed as a character in the show, casting for Abby and other side characters, and the overall execution of how they tell the story of the second game. tbh I'm most worried about how they handle the timeskip and setup for the plot of the second game, cuz I know they said they don't wanna add filler but they'll still need to be cognizant of how they handle that.
