Dec 5, 2016 Is it the listener's duty to fully grasp every sociopolitical concept that influences a song (and if so, when? How many listens are you allotted before you're considered dumb for not grasping it?)

Dec 5, 2016 http://www.theroot.com/articles/history/2013/03/black_slave_owners_did_they_exist/ The first slave owner was also an African American male, just saying I get your point though and agree with it
Dec 5, 2016 Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Cubans are the only Latinx people that can say n----- in my opinion. Then again growing up in Flatbush, Brooklyn where I was surrounded by these people all the time, they're Afro-Caribbean like myself. So that's most likely why I have no problem with it. I feel like this video can help the discussion as well.
Dec 5, 2016 "Cracker" is not a racial word. The historical context of "cracker" has to do with social class. Elites use to refer to poor white people that were on the same socioeconomic status as black people as "crackers."
Dec 5, 2016 This isn't accurate. Slavery as we know it (life long slavery) was enacted in 1640 when John Punch and two other white indentured servants ran away from their owner. When they were caught, john punch was sentenced to life-long slavery (first African in America to be a life long slave) while the two white indentured servants simply got their indentures extended. Prior to Punch, the way that it worked for Africans and lower-class whites alike is they were considered indentured servants and served someone a certain amount of time before being let free.
