Dec 5, 2016 well my american history isn't amazing, but wasn't it because people of black skin colour were used as slaves only to be free'd and segregated in america and in general looked down upon and treated like s--- legally from 1940-1970ish (?). again i could be wrong and it could've been more "if u not white u not alright" in general. But imo i don't consider latinos black people. especially when some tanned aussies come in darker shades than most latinos. And again i don't know full well, but weren't most slaves stolen from africa?
Dec 5, 2016 I think I speak for most people when it's seen as a black specific term. Hence my immense confusion to kenneth sayin minorites have a reason to say it
Dec 5, 2016 Honestly don't feel like talking about this again we've done it 100 times I'll see my way out
Dec 5, 2016 Look black people equal hood back in day latinos equal hood what u think they called each other it's pretty simple if u think about it
Dec 5, 2016 So the word transcended into a term for just people living in the "slums" in general? I was unaware of that and never knew that to be the case at all but whatever
Dec 5, 2016 its not like i love talking about this s--- but i'm with shudeye there's immense confusion because all we are taught about american racial history in school is probs a 3month assignment period in grade 4. we're taught pretty much that black people were segregated after the slavery era and the main focus is that it's "black people" and the "slaves" were all stolen/captured from Africa. so yeah its a bit confusing for us when latino's are brought into the equation.
Dec 5, 2016 It's because white people were the ones who used it as a derogatory term, not latinos, blacks, asians, etc. So, it's not really a "black thing", it's more like a "not white thing"
Dec 5, 2016 No offence to ken but fitz explanation was better. 'How the world sees' someone as a latino didn't answer my question
Dec 5, 2016 I completely agree that White people shouldn't say it, but isn't it a bit racist to say "You cant say this word because of the color of your skin?" Something I always wondered. I understand the background of the word and all, but if I were to say that white people can only call white people "Crackers" for example, is that racist? Why do Latino's get to say it?
Dec 5, 2016 I know we joke a lot but this was seriously not trying to mock you. Your explanation + what fitz added makes it complete for me
