Dec 1, 2016 Hey guys, Let's discuss which has been the most disappointing album ever released by what I like to call the powerhouse of the hiphop production scene. Probably many of you are going to say it's Encore or Relapse, maybe Yela's radioactive (?) - however I completely disagree since they are pretty good albums. I am going to go for Dr.Dre 's COMPTON, I was so excited after its announcement... but after listening to it, I was appalled, made me wonder what the h--- happened. (where the h--- is DETOX ) P.S The aforementioned albums do not need to be bad or terrible, just disappointing according to one's very own expectations.
Dec 1, 2016 what do you mean by this? also my answer is Encore because no artist has disappointed me that bad. Going from your best album (imo) to your d--- near worst?
Dec 1, 2016 For me it's: Dr. Dre Presents...The Aftermath For the younger members of this board, this album was an absolute crushing letdown to Dre fans and at this point in time, everyone thought Aftermath was a failure and everyone lost faith in Dre. After leaving Death Row and starting Aftermath, I was so f---ing amped for this new album. I couldn't wait to hear what Dre was gonna do with complete creative control. I begged my older brother to drive me to the record store after school on a Tuesday the day it came out and I bought this CD with money I saved up from cutting my neighbors lawns and raking their autumn leaves. Point is, I was in middle school and barely had enough money to buy CDs. I popped it in and couldn't believe what I was hearing. West coast rappers aren't always bad, but growing up in the northeast there aren't a whole lot of west coast rappers I like. And this album was filled with subpar rappers. There are some gems and some of those dudes have dropped dope s--- over their careers but this was not the way to show off your new label. After releasing his own classic album and producing classics for Snoop and 2Pac, this compilation missed the mark badly. I still hate it to this day haha. It's probably not THAT bad of an album but what it represented at that time and what it actually sounded like were so far apart. Thank god he signed eminem. Edit: Sorry for the extremely long post. No one will probably even read this and I doubt anyone will even agree with me. But this topic brought back old memories (and some old wounds apparently!).
Dec 1, 2016 Beats that were supposed to be on Detox are all used on these projects I named that's well known
Dec 1, 2016 I would agree with op Compton was a load of s--- , but for me it was the re up that was the real disappointment As I liked you don't know
Dec 1, 2016 Did Shady XV really disappoint you? I didn't expect much from it after Paul said it's an album full of songs thag don't have homes, in other words left over songs Encore was much more disappointing from an Eminem perspective
Dec 1, 2016 Quite frankly Compton is a great album. And does exactly what the 2 previous did, signals where Westcoast hiphop is going before it gets there. My personal let down is Encore. Expectations were high, output was low. Everything after that has met expectations.
Dec 1, 2016 my ratings of the album it's a classic without a doubt but I hate when albums have f---ing 18 + tracks I mean lol who puts out albums that long? But still 11 years after it's release I can listen to it front to back neither song aged badly well except these 3/5 songs that I don't really think are good enough to age good at all
