and getting mad when they dont

putting musicians specifically rappers on this pedestal is absolutely ridiculous wayne doesnt owe anyone anything man this societal climate of berating people of the tiniest foot out of line is sickening bro has been a superstar most of his life obv his mind is wired differently to regular people he doesnt have any responsibility to anyone other than to his fans to keep putting out GOAT level rap music
im just using wayne as hes a topical example but smh this goes for anyone man you wouldnt care this much if your neighbour or some kid in your math class disagreed with you about some s--- stop putting these people on pedestals they're just ppl smh not career politician herbs

kanye west is like the posterchild for this argument, memes aside he's done and said some things that a lot of people will find pretty reprehensible, but you always, always hear people say "kanye's such an a------ but he's a musical genius"
i don't see why he's the only one who gets to operate like that

i dont understand this mindest
a lot of people say s--- about like "how are you gonna listen to x when they don't support y"
its like, to me, i dont give a s--- about their political standing or their opinions on a lot of things, or just about anything. i like a lot of rappers that like trashcan kendrick but that doesn't mean i have to like him just because he has their cosign. i don't give a s--- about their opinion, I like the artist for the art, and the bubble that art's contained in, not because of the person they are outside of being the artist.
but i guess thats the whole separating art from artist thing that a lot of people can't get past.Michael Myers, Ordinary Joel, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and 3 others like this. -

kanye is a genius at marketing, controversy is never a bad thing when you're trying to shine light on yourself. kanye, when he has something down the pipeline or he needs to be in the news, will say exactly what he needs to say to stir s--- up. i don't think he's as genuine as wayne is. it's like when he was going on and on about the bankruptcy s--- and tweeting millionaires saying he needs their support or whatever, he had TLOP coming out soon/just about to come out. i fully believe that the "personal debt" thing was all about getting people to check out his new album. same thing with releasing the album in waves, or iterations or whatever the f--- actually happened in the end with that absolute clusterfuck. He wanted people to keep an interest in the album after it was released so he made like 9 f---in versions which kept people listening and kept people talking and most importantly kept blogging nerds making articles about "KANYE JUST RELEASED TLOP 3.7, CLICK NOW TO SEE THE MINUTE DIFFERENCES!". The man's a genius marketer, i'll give him that.
well I think that ideology is assuming a lot, maybe i'm an outlier but growing up when I had my idols and heroes i was realistic about what I identified with and what I didnt. i think that assuming wayne fans = supporters of waynes political views is kinda shortsighted. I was a huge eminem fan, huge nirvana fan, loved wrestlers like RVD who's entire character was getting stoned, and I was a fan of a lot of drunks and degenerate drug addicts growing up, and I self identified as straight edge until I was like 15 or 16. I think, and speaking from my own personal experience with other kids growing up, which i know is anecdotal but still, i believe people don't give children and teens enough credit for what their mind is capable of. i don't think wayne saying BLM is stupid is going to make people hate BLM. I think people will read his statement, think about it, and stick firm with their stance they had before reading wayne's thoughts on it, and i think that's evidenced by the huge outcry people have about wayne saying what he said. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with BLM or what wayne said, a lot of attention has been brought to it and a lot of people are speaking out against wayne and what he said and did. i think that in and of itself is evidence enough that people are freethinking enough to acknowledge when someone they idolize says something stupid, and disagrees with that person.. if they didn't there wouldn't be any controversy over what wayne said. it'd just be another day at the office. people talking about the situation is the best evidence against themselves. if people were as easily influenced by their favorite artists as a lot of people think, there'd be no conversation about this right now. He's also, just like everyone else, a human that is going to have kneejerk reactions and be a hypocrite from time to time. whether he actually feels the way he says he did, whether he was just uninformed on what BLM is/means and would agree with them on their stances after learning more, or whether he was just made about the daughter s--- and made a petty comment, i don't think it matters. he's a human being and we're all hypocrites from time to time, and i'd be less lenient even if it was someone else, but wayne has always been known to make kneejerk statements and just downright petty at times.
i get that wayne will influence people that hear him, but my entire thing is that, should he have to change the way he feels and expresses himself because of that? would it be nice if he started acting like ghandi and touted equality, world peace, and everything else? sure, lots of people would hear him and his message, but that's not wayne anymore, that's wayne playing a political game with a goal in mind, not wayne being wayne. would it be cool if he said "everbody chill, let's not hurt eachother"? yeah, but should he be vilified for not saying that a point that he could have? i don't think so.Michael Myers, Lucy, Deadpool and 1 other person like this. -

but wayne is just a human being, is he not allowed to share his own opinions on topics like that unless they're positive? he's not an elected official or appointed representative, he's just a person who had an opinion. should he just bite his tongue on these matters?Ordinary Joel, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and 1 other person like this. -

well i think thats a bit different because people like to beat their chest and rap about being alphamales and s--- like that and that gets into hyperbole when it comes to beating down doors and skullfucking your children's mother
but its like do i give a s--- if wayne disagrees/agrees with me politically? absolutely not because i'm not interested in wayne as a human being, i'm interested in him as a rapper.
it's cool to find an artist you're into that does share the same opinions you do but to me i just can't get mad at a rapper i like that has differing opinions than me politically or otherwiseOrdinary Joel, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Cunner and 1 other person like this. -
