    might make another post/update this one as i go through the thread, but this is what i pulled from the first page:

    he's in a tough position. they tried to make gucci cross over; his false starts/legal/personal problems don't hurt him with his core fanbase because he was so established before the radio attempts started. thug has less of a foundation.

    on the other hand, thug's shown absolutely tremendous success/instincts (lifestyle, good times). i would also argue that the way he's become a lightning rod for criticism/debate helps keep him in relevant on a level that some rappers with better sales (logic, for example) will never hit. so he'll keep having opportunities.
    this sounds exactly right.
    this is clinically insane

    There will never be another Lil Wayne. But there will never be another Young Thug either. I do hope he does grow a stronger following in the near future, rap always could use someone like him pushing the genre forward.

    I don't think it's valid to dismiss how different hype is in today's society compared to what I remember during my middle school-high school days when kids would actively discuss rap releases at like lunch tables and s---. Sales and promotion are extremely different, and there are so much more avenues in listening to music now. Wayne was a machine, everything he touched turned into platinum and had a huge full-circle appeal from fans and critics. Being in NY at the peak of G-Unit's hype was unbelievable, to me no rapper will ever be as renown as Fifty was in that time period.

    Drake is the lite version of 06-09 Wayne. If drake raps on your song it's a hit. But Wayne had like 15 songs in radio rotation for four years straight. f---ing "Let it Rock" by Kevin Rudolph. All those songs with Jay Sean. Wayne gave no names a ton of platinum records
