i am not gonna defend my country nor this thread is about that, but this is getting ridiculous, this thread has over 5k upvotes in 6 hours
Saudi man arrested for flying ‘pretty’ rainbow flag, had no idea it represented gay pride
    https://www.reddit.com/r/nottheonio..._man_arrested_for_flying_pretty_rainbow_flag/

i knew it was fake cuz we dont fly any flags here, its not part of the culture, but anyway the report basically reference this site
    http://arabic.cnn.com/entertainment/2016/03/27/saudi-new-law-sentences-gays-social-media

ok here where things is interesting, two things
1- this site also reference another, a famous newspaper here called "Akath"...i read it from back to front, literally nothing about the news, i went back a week..nothing about this news

2- at the end of the report it literally says " Arabic CNN is not held responsible for the authentication of this news as it came from social media"

the thing is, this isnt the only time this happens...almost every report about my country is fake..its not just fake, its shouting at you that it is fake but western cant know that cuz the reference site is in arabic and no one will question its authentication

    f---ing s---

Tldr it was secret camera footage which painted your country in a very very bad light. Of course it was biased. But this aired on our main network. It was big here.

Journalists are professional liars and manipulators. It's literally what they're paid to do (the manipulating part at least...but the lying is tolerated if you can get away with it and it helps your employer's agenda). Truth takes a backseat to propaganda. It's more subtly done in the West than in a lot of the rest of the world, but if something fits a papers narrative, whether or not it's definitely true doesn't matter at all as long as they can legally distance themselves from getting f----- in court (just by saying "we're not held responsible for the authentication of this news as it came from social media" they've saved themselves).

Anything from manipulation of statistics to prove an otherwise unproveable point, to outright lies (that are worded subtly enough to avoid a court case). It's all part of the parcel of working in media.
