This felt like the right place to post this so,

I am currently studying web development/design with the hopes of doing it as a career. I remember back on the SL when I was quite active I received a lot of help and advice on these kinds of subjects so I thought I’d try again.

- Anyone who works or worked in this field do you have any advice on how to step from studying to earning money from it?

- Anyone else, if you're looking to have any web development done I can offer my services to help as much as possible, it will help me build a personal portfolio so depending on the level of work/help I can probably do it for no cost.

dont do this
you're doing work. charge for it. spec work is a no-no. if you want to build a portfolio you can do your own little pet projects, there's no need to take a job and do it for free for someone else.
