Ok the white part we all get,

Sslp went platinum before Eminem was on 2001

The way I am is not the only meaningful song on that album

8 mile did bring him more fame but the mmlp still is the highest selling rap album

If Eminem would've died after the release of tes he would be hailed as a top 5 rapper my most and would not be overrated , it's just his latter work is no where near what he did in his early career.

The epitome of this word in hip hop. Why is he hailed as one of the greats?

Here are the Reasons eminem stans usually give me :

-lyrical ability
-album sales
-8 mile movie
-whiteness
-somewhat consensus that he has 3 classics (SSLP, MMLP, and TES)

Let me decode and debunk every single one of those reasons why he is not a great.

#lyrical ability…

Let’s start off with lyrical ability. Why does Eminem fall into the category of lyrical? why do you think? Is it because of metaphors, similies, wordplay, etc? Or is it because HE JUST RAPS f---ing FAST. I’ll go with the latter. Rapping fast does not equal lyrical ability. What is Eminem’s best line??? Kanye’s best lines are like “mayonaisse colored benz I push myrical whips” people remember those dope lines, but Eminem? what is his dopest line???? I rap like a robot, so call me rapbot? that’s trash? He doesn’t have any alltime memorable metaphors, wordplay or anything like that.

Don’t even deny it. You know what I’m getting at. It IS for that reason whether you like it or not. He was one of the first white rappers that acted like a “n-----” plus he was backed up by Dr. Dre of course he was gonna sell records. His first album Infinite didn’t sell s---..why? oh that’s right because he wasn’t on The Chronic 2001 before he made that album. Had Dr. Dre never helped him out he’d still be working at Mcdonalds. That’s the only reason 13 year old future shooters listened to him across America. Because only they would listen to the corny material that was on SSLP MMLP and TES… “My name is…what? my name is…SLIM SHADY” in those weird a--- annoying voices? smh who other than r-----ed kids enjoys that? I’ll tell you no one. Plus album sales don’t mean s--- to greatness because Mc f---ing Hammer has a diamond album. The end.

People just like that movie…which is the only thing he was ever cool or dope in. I like the movie. But you know what, too bad movies don’t count in your all time great scale. How good the 8 mile movie is doesn’t cover up his overratedness sorry.

Yea let’s talk about those “classics”. What makes SSLP classic? The oh so inspiring abundance of childish material pertaining to murder, r---, and vandalism? The average lyrical content? Or did you just think it was cool that he said he didn’t give a f--- a lot when u were little so u thought yaaaaaay classic!! NO not a classic by any regards. MMLP??? Same s--- as SSLP with only one good and meaningful song: The Way I Am. If he made songs like this all the time he would'nt be an overrated piece of s---. “kim” is an abomination. How can any mentally stable person enjoy that song? Seriously what the f--- is wrong with you? Nothing cool about domestic violence. Again it has “white kid that’s a future Columbine perpetrator” written all over it. TES? You know I could go over this too but it’s really the same crap as the other two and frankly it gets tiring discussing his childish work. TES is no better so so SOOOOOO overrated UGH!.

In short Eminem is the shining example of overrated. No other artist amounts to his burning blood of overate. I have debunked why he is in case anybody wondered how. I’ll be humble about going down as a legend for converting thousands maybe even MILLIONS of Eminem stans from his grasp. I will make so many see the light. Anyway keep spreading positivity people and enjoy this factual work.

obviously YDB was 75% trolling this entire thread, but he also has a point. Lets take a stab at this.

Regardless of what Em did in his prime, it's been over a decade of utter s--- to slightly above average music. With so few real gems that they're almost not worth mentioning. Unless, of course, you're overrating him as an artist.

Also, the Kanye line is a great punchline. Whats wrong with it?

ALSO, Lose Yourself is obviously great. But the subject matter isnt something so complex that no one else can replicate it lol. Macklemore could make a song like that at this very moment if he wanted. It's how Em appraoched the POVs for the verses that really elevates it.

His point was that sales in general dont matter when talking about the artistic merits of an artist. Yeah, of course if Em died when he was good he would be considered good. Can we stop with that argument?

95% of what Em's done since his return isn't anything special. And he's done a lot. The point of the OP was to say that Em's overrated, right? So if its just that 5% still has people in this section drooling over him, (regardless of how good that 5% is) doesnt that mean he's overrated?

Well it's not like people are going to the J Cole section to make troll threads or call them out for liking him etc. I made one thread like that but it was just a well written piece on whats wrong with Cole's writing, nothing more. It's about how big Eminem still is. It's about how much undeserved praise he still gets. Its about his fans. Its the characteristics a majority of them share that make them targets. Their lack of open-mindedness, they're tunnel vision when it comes to his work, etc. Obviously not everyones like that. If this isnt you, this thread was meant to bait you lol.

can't respect someone who says TES isn't even a good album. It's a classic. No doubt.

Production is phenomenal (Mostly done by himself). You're argument for MMLP and SSLP don't work for it since he changed his subject material.

Please explain why SFTM, Til I Collapse, Hailies Song, When the Music Stops, Say Goodbye to Hollywood, White America, Soldier, Without Me, and Cleaning Out My Closet are bad songs. I'll wait.
