Jan 6, 2016Is Eminem as great as he was? Absolutely not. Is he trash now? No, he's not. He's held in such a high regard that when he is compared to his former self, he is made out to seem worse than he really is. It's how the brain works. It's like moving away from a huge house to a smaller house. The smaller house isn't bad but it seems worse when compared to what you were used to. He dropped 3 fantastic albums in the beginning of his career. Can't knock those. Then he came with 2 really bad albums (though they do have redeeming tracks). The last two albums sit in the middle. 2 out of 7 albums were bad, and I find it hard to knock him for that considering the s--- that was going on during that time.
Aside from his albums, he also made a huge impact when he came. He was a f---ing worldwide phenomenon. He still is. He could drop an album right now and I guarantee people would flip s---. The fact that he is still relevant and still brought up in conversations today says a lot. He's also inspired numerous rappers (and put in their top 10s, even top 5s), from Kendrick Lamar to Big Sean. He was proclaimed the best by one of the biggest out right now (Drake).
So is he top 10? To me, yes. Of course, this is all opinionated and I'm not gonna force it on anybody, but this is my say on the matter. And this is probably the most Stannish post I'll ever make.

Forget top 10.
He will always be the top 5 of all time.
The things he has done in his career have truly shifted the rap genre. He is one of the greatest icons on the planet. He has critically acclaimed work as well as garnered astonishing sales figures.
To say he's not is just pure arrogance.
What he's done up to this point since 2004 may be mediocre to say the least. However, it doesn't stop him from being a rap icon.
How does his later work erase his 1999-2003 work?
Today. Tomorrow. 10 years from now.
He will still be...top 5 greatest of all time.
Rest is interchangeable.
Rakim
Nas
Tupac
Eminem
Biggie
NO ONE ELSE IS EVEN CONSIDERED TO BE TOP 5.
You have to be delusional to believe artists like Kanye/Jay Z/ Pharaoh are top 10 but Em isn't.Jerome, DMX, adamisaacddr and 2 others like this. -

I don't understand how someone drops out of a top 10 based on their own actions...such as releasing a bad album.
I could see if they are like #10 and a young artist passes them in quality thus dethroning them, but you guys are insinuating he is no longer top 10 via himself, and I don't agree how that works.
For example, Jay Z has released lukewarm music for 12 years. But he released his big three and other great music at the start of his career so he is still what he is no matter what...
You're telling me if Kanye went ahead and dropped 3 bad albums leading into say 2020, that he would no longer be in the high graces you hold him? Of course he would. He's still Kanye.Him Shadow, rapmusik, ArthurDW and 2 others like this. -
