Dec 21, 2015 Last year around this time, J. Cole did an interview with Angie Martinez. It took place shortly after his performance on Letterman. J. Cole states the following about "that kinda music" "This music is killin us but it makes money.. trash.. it's trash. I don't mind or I don't get upset when those songs come on but I don't spend a single minute of my life listening or delving into them. It's so generic and we've been recycling those songs for so many years now, it doesn't mean anything, the youth wants something new" Basically he's saying he can't stand the music of fellows. like Young Thug, Future, Travis Scott, Fetty Wapp and all those guys. Doesn't really surprise me to be honest. What about you ? He proceeds to say : "I think me and Kendrick are doing a good job at fighting this but I feel like ..2 people in the mainstream are not enough.." Thoughts ?
Dec 21, 2015 Doubt that, would be surprised if he did. Well what I'm saying is - based on his personality he conveys in his interviews and his music - he doesn't make the impression as if he'd be into that.
Dec 21, 2015 Localizing it those guys writes them off as "trap rappers" when they're so much more. He's probably just talking about formulaic trap songs. Saying he doesn't like Future, Young Thug, Trav or Fetty based on that quote is a hugeeee reach.
Dec 21, 2015 Well I am happy not all rappers make 'trap' music but most of them who do it are great at it so I like it
Dec 21, 2015 I wish he was as mainstream as them. But he's def notable for how far he's gone without trap
Dec 21, 2015 Im sure he did actually just cant be bothered to find the interview rn. Pretty much what everyone above said tho. Bet u got mad when media misquoted cole to say he dissed Em in fire squad when ur doing the same here
Dec 21, 2015 @J V S H Well Travis is debatable but I remember him saying "I'm not Hip Hop" but he's probably more diverse than others. I agree with that, he probably mentioned the two rappers who have the biggest voices reight now. @Mike Tyson Well not really to be honest. What I'm saying is I just can't imagine sb like Cole sitting down and listen to Young Thug and going "Holy s---, this is amazing, let me call Kendrick and tell him about it" He just doesn't seem like that
