Besides the most obvious that BR has far better quality, I still think that DVD's excel in almost everything else, the packaging, the special features, everything usually has a DVD player in it now days. even the quality of a movie on DVD has eventually gotten that nostalgic feel like a VHS does.

does anyone else still buy DVD's or have they conformed to the blu ray era?

Not every Blu-Ray release is perfect but the fact that BR's generally have better quality and can store more data makes them superior. I still buy DVD's if the price is low. NYC has a lot of places that sell used DVD's for really cheap like Book Off and CEX. But when it comes to newer releases, I'm pretty much exclusively BR.

DVDs are dirt cheap online. Getting a physical copy of my favorite stuff for $3-5 a piece is definitely worth the sacrifice in quality. That said, blu-rays blow them out of the water in basically every other category. Especially when they come with digital codes. The only thing holding them back is everything not being reissued to the format.

OP would've made sense if it was made 8 years ago. Most Blu-rays nowadays match DVDs in features.

I only buy dvd's when there isn't a bluray release.. I buy a lot of Film Noir's..so about 70-80% of them only have dvd releases

The only non-noir that I bought was Punch Drunk Love last year on DVD, because it doesn't have a bluray release yet

Last movie I bought was dark knight rises. Just don't watch a movie enough times to buy it. But I never watched the special features or anything other than the film on a DVD or bluray so quality was all that mattered to me.

I don't know about America, but here in Australia I feel blu-rays are a massive flop. I've never actually bought one or watched one, but I download everything anyway so I guess my opinion doesn't count for much. Still, I actually think a lot of the time they're nearly equal in price here compared to DVDs just because no one buys them.

the biggest gripe I have with BRs nowadays is that every f---ing one comes with a DVD and digital download code that I imagine only raises the price. 25-30 dollars for a new bluray is f---ing ridiculous.

I remember blu-rays averaging around $50 when they first come out in Australia, they're affordable now. I'd rather pay $5 for a DVD title as apposed to the same movie on blu ray with a s-----y transfer (a bunch of them) for a couple extra bucks. I don't think I'm ready to let DVD's go yet.

A lot of companies aren't including the bonus DVD or Digital download anymore. The price is still high.
