'we’re ranking rappers, not rap artists. That’s why Dr. Dre and Kanye West, for example, two legendary producer-artists who don’t match the mic skills of those listed here, were left out.'

i mean, that doesn't work as a way to dismiss kanye. it just doesn't. i think you can have a very respectable top ten without him, but if we were doing this on pure rapping ability, where's pharoahe monch? where's aceyalone? where's young thug?

yeah sounds like the kind of awful excuse people who make a list with kendrick in the top 10 of all time would use

Would you have Dre in your top 10 if this was rap artists and not rappers?

Yeah because you mentioned him along with Kanye before. I do think he could be considered, but then someone like RZA as well (many others too tbh)

Yeah agreed purely in term of rapping pharoahe probably should be in the top ten, you could also make an argument for the likes of black thought, lupe, even tech 9. As for Kanye he wouldn't be in my top 10 but he'd probably be top 20.

I definitely think he was a huge influence on most of the current rappers out now. I've seen interviews by most of black hippy claiming he was a big influence for them. While I don't think 50s current s--- is of the same caliber as his early s--- it's hard to deny his impact on rap as a whole.

the list is best rappers though. Even in 50s prime he wasn't a great rapper but did make great music.

    50 made generic gangsta rap.
GRODT was great, but nothing groundbreaking tbh.

I know this is all down to preference but Lupe is def skilled enough to deserve a spot on a bigger list.. (shame that he lost it for a while after The Cool)
